I have been putting off getting pictures posted of my current kitchen, thinking that "I should straighten up first." Well, I can't straighten up, there is no place to put the stuff that needs to be straightened up, which is why I need new cabinets! And so, without further ado, here are the pictures:
Emmie -- love your "stars"! I have an Empress as well: Reilly, Empress of the Radiator.
Kitchen looks highly workable. What's the total space again?? And how're your mom's kitchen plans coming along?

The kitchen is 10'6" from stove to dining room door, 9'6" from fridge to sink. (I mean from wall to wall, not literally from counter to counter.) It has just gotten so SMALL as our stuff has grown...but I am hoping I can put a big cabinet in the mudroom to store things like my lobster pot. Very little lobster gets cooked here, but it's Massachusetts, you have to have a lobster pot! However, New ENgland kitchens were rarely built to STORE thebloody things!:X
Susan: Mom is on hold until she gets a good look at the beach cottage kitchen again this spring. However, she is now drooling over the idea of doing her kitchen at home, and ripping out the dreaded soffits that looked SO COOL when the house was built 40 years ago!
Funny how styles and tastes change and recycle over the decades, isn't it?
Emmie, check out the America's Test Kitchen Shore Dinner in a Pot recipe. It's awesome, and if I didn't live in a landlocked state we would have it weekly. Simple to do, you just stack all the items in a particular order and everything comes out perfectly done and yummy.
This will be fun and so rewarding. It's actually great to show your kitchen in fully cluttered splendor, because the "after" pictures will be so stunning in contrast! Gorgeous cats!
I'm so excited for you and your beginning plans. I love seeing peoples beginning and ends and can't wait to see your in-betweens too!
Stacy
