Our kitchen is 11'5" by 12'1" with two doorways andtwo 30" wide casement windows side-by-side. We want to have lots of counter/prep space, a table and/or island to sit at, a big pantry, and room for family, friends, and cat bowls. The most recent design we've come up with involves moving the doorway to our dining room over to accomodate an island or table. We may not be staying in the house for a long time, so we want it to be something that will appeal to people with families. Here are two angles of the design. We'd appreciate any advice you have!

Reason: replacing pictures
I think you have quite a wide aisle space between the island and the pantry. If you cut that down to 42", could you have a second layer of wall cabinets on the seating side of the island? It would add 12 inches to the overall depth of the island cabinets, but give you lots more storage.
I think you should do the upper cabinets all 39 inches high (except the fan cab of course)
I'd recommend drawer units instead of the cabinets you have next to the range and in the island. They are much more functional than shelf units for large items such as pots as well as smaller things such as ingredient bins. It's definitely a better resale point, too.
Make sure you can open the doors of the fridge, and the drawers or doors of the island, without smacking a door frame. You may need a bit of filler.
I think you are losing quite a bit of storage space due to wanting seating on the island. Is it a possibility to open the doorway to the dining room to make a very wide opening, and then use that for the kitchen seating since it will be more open? Then you could use the wall that is opposite the fridge for an entire bank of cabinets, perhaps even a baking island or secondary prep area.
Unless it involves expensive labor charges, I think it would be more efficient to switch the refrigerator with the pantry unit, so that it's closer to the range. Other than that, it looks good!
Thanks so much for your replies. We need to step away from the kitchen design for a few days, but we'll keep your suggestions in mind when we get back to it. Thanks again!
