OK, I've been browsing this site more than I should, but I still have some questions that I haven't yet found answers to. I'm sure the issue is my searching skills, not the site...
1. If one is going with a white door, say, Stat or Adel, for example, are cover panels still needed?
2. If above answer is yes, would one be needed, say, on the side of a tall pantry that will be next to a fridge, if about 6-8" of the pantry will show above the fridge and below the over-the-fridge cabinet, or could one 'get away' with not using a cover panel?
3. I understand the hanging rail concept for the wall cabinets, but are there set/predetermined levels at which these need to go? For example, if I wanted to combine 39"h and 30"h wall cabinets in the same run, with the tops aligned, will this work with the rail, or will I need to cobble together a solution?
4. Corner wall cabinets: must one allow for space between it and the adjoining cabinets for the doors to open?
5. Can IKEA cabinets be combined with the typical laminate countertops (with backsplash) available here in NA, or is the depth of the base cabinets different?
6. Does the rail used for installing the wall cabinets create a gap visible at the end of a wall cabinet run? Or is this why cover panels are used?
1. Not necessarily
2. Not sure
3. No. This will work. No cobbling required.
4. No.
5. Yes.
6. Yes and yes.

It's about 1/4" if I remember correctly -- it's the thickness of the suspension rail. I've got pictures around here somewhere....let me see what I can find.
Well, I can't find the one I was looking for (always lose stuff when I migrate from one computer to another -- ACK!), but this one on the suspension rail FAQ page shows what you'll see on the side, although you'll cut the suspension rail 1/4" shorter than the cabinet run so that you don't actually see it sticking out at the end. The gap, however, will still be there.
Does that help?

Hmmm....Does this mean that the bottoms of wall cabinets have to be shimmed, or is there some sort of adjustment mechanism included in the hardware that is used to actually build them, that sets them off the wall a bit to compensate?
All these questions...no wonder it takes so long to 'do a kitchen'...one website I visited (not sure which, I've been to so many) said DIY kitchen, allow 5 to 6 months...
If you take a look at the FAQ on hanging cabinets on the Suspension Rail, you can see that the cabinets hang from specially designed hardware, on the suspension rail. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to illustrate (maybe someone who's currently assembling/installing can jump in here), but there's no need to shim the cabinets...there's a built-in lip on the cabinet bottom that keeps the cabinet plumb. IKEA is very clever in their engineering and design....it's just not always obvious.
