kitchen design: first try, any thoughts?

Hi,
I'm very new here. We're in the midst of a kitchen renovation that involves removing a wall between our tiny kitchen and tiny dining room, so now it' s just one room.

I'm attaching the design plan we have right now. We've been fooling around with the planner for ages, and I thought we might put it out and see if anyone had any feedback.

Thanks.

A little tight going around the fridge; also, you'd want some gap between the stove and the sink.

I presume that beyond the dishwasher is a hallway down that corner?

Anyways, lemme see what I can work up here ...

This is a rough draft, but how about something along these lines?

Having a stove next to a sink is not great. You really need the space between, both for function and for safety. I'd swap the DW and stove.

What is in that little room at the lower right? A pantry? Can the fridge go in there? That would open up some possibilities.

Also, do you need a 36" sinkbase, or will a 30" do?

Re: kitchen design: first try, any thoughts?

Thanks!

The lower area is the other entrance to the kitchen. We did talk about blocking it off, but it would change the house a lot. (It's a small cape, and the rooms on that floor are connected in a circle; I really don't want to block that flow.)

We put in the 30" sink because it got us a little more space on the other side. Also, the sink won't be centered under the window but it's not quite as obvious with a smaller sink.

Fridge: yes, it's tight. Not as much as when we had a tall pantry cabinet in there too, though. I think there will be enough room to maneuver around it. It's not ideal, but it's about as good as it's going to get, without blocking the door. (I think.)

Come to think of it, how important is the penisula anyways? If it's not, I have some other ideas ...

Ditched the seating for the penisula, and moved the stove over a bit ... what do you think?

Re: kitchen design: first try, any thoughts?

Wow. I actually really like that. I think we want to keep the peninsula seating, but I may reconsider.

We went to Ikea yesterday. It's very strange to look at the stuff in person. We didn't order anything yet, but I think we're getting closer.
