using 6" base gap? (next to 24" fridge) options/ideas?
hi,
i bought a condo with ikea cabinets. i am very impressed by the options and quality, especially the ability to change all the doors and panels if i want - rather inexpensively transforming the kitchen!
but, one thing i want to do is install a 24"-wide undercounter fridge, in place of an existing 30" base cabinet.
what to do with the remaining 6"???? i saw an intriguing thred mentioning using a drawer-front as a door, and i can find lots of workable open or slide-out 6x30 base items (even 3x30) at home depot and lowes.
so, my urgent question is: "is an ikea kitchen drawer front actually 6x30 inches, or atleast close enough to be workable?"
please advise as to what clever ideas you may have for handling this in the most attractive, functional manner?

Re: using 6" base gap? (next to 24" fridge) options/ideas?
you'll find that the shallow 30" drawer isn't quite 30", however it's close enough for me (some have thought differently)
i would think about one of the pull out spice centers or something rather than a 6" wide 24" deep space. and the 24" fridge will probably be a little less meaning that the 6 1/4 wouldn't matter (unless you already own the fridge and know the exact measurements)

Hi Phil, and welcome!
To add to the all the other measurements, a 6.25"H x 30"W drawerfront fits a 30"W cabinet which is 30"W. A 30"H cabinet is however, about 30.5"H. So if you used the drawer vertically, you may find it's a little short for the cabinet. This may be hidden by the counter overhang, I just wanted to point it out.
Keep us posted. I saw the pictures you posted in the other thread and you have a nice space to work with.
