Planning help

I seem stuck and need advice on design. We are moving to a small, really small, two bedroom hours, with limited storage. The style is very mid-century modern.
The kitchen/dining area is large, and will be in an L shape. I need to use as many full height pantry cabinets as I can along one wall, for storage.

I have been hoping that the Nexus black brown would be available in Mid August. I think the look of them would be great, with a pearly white translucent small mosaic backsplash, with SS appliances.
But what if I cant get them? Many of the other styles have raised panels - and won't look modern enough.

Can anyone make some color and style suggestions. I can be bold, since we plan to stay there 10 years or so - but red is too much color.

Any style suggestions would be appreciated very much!

Re: Planning help

Hi Sarasugar, and welcome to IKEAfans!

If you can't get the Nexus Black-Brown, have you seen the new Nexus Yellow-Brown? There will be a Nexus Brown later in the year too, closer in color to the discontinued Hallarum, if reports are to be believed. All the Nexus are slab front. The pearly backspash sounds wonderful. What type of counters are you considering?

I saw the other thread with your frustrations with the lazy susan cabinet. Have you see the Lee Valley blind corner unit? It can be installed in a 36" base cabinet pulled away from the corner about 8" or so and put an 18" door on it. So it would take up about 44" instead of the regular 49" blind cabinet with the half-moon shelves. The LV unit uses practically all the space in the cabinet too. It may be a better option for your new kitchen. Here's a thread where it is discussed: Blind Corner Unit from Lee Valley

There are lots of pictures of kitchens in the Galleries as well as elsewhere on the web. Maybe you can find an inspiration. Some people find color ideas from a piece of artwork or a fabric they like.

I've been blogged!
Re: Planning help

Hi Sara!

I think Nexus Birch might be a contender. I have them, with black granite countertops, and it's a very mid-century vibe.

For color, I think a cool clear yellow or apple green might be nice. If you go with the birch, then apple or a turquoise might work nicely. The birch is too yellow to do yellow...

Re: Planning help

Thank Eva and Gloria for the suggestions! I just found the Galleries area and am enjoying it.

I have done Nexus Birch in my last two kitchens, all with SS appliances. The first had Ubatuba counters, with a polished concrete floor. The current one has a black white and speckled granite (something verde, I think) with bamboo floors.

The kitchen person at Ikea showed me the approximate color of the yellow brown, but it has too much of a wood grain , although I like the flat panel.

That apple green is a good idea, and would work with the white cabinets - can't remember their name - very shiny. And since most of the accents in my house are in that color, it might tie in well. It 's just that those cabinets are real expensive!

And thanks for the tip on the Lee Valley corner unit. I'll check them out. I have seen that type of cabinet in the high end Italian and European kitchen showrooms. That might be a good option!
