We have a friend who travels regularly on business from London to NYC. He has informally become a courier for small things between these cities for us and friends in the UK. Just now my wife is amassing some cosmetics for him to take back over.

And here I regularly read posts from those who are disappointed or desperate when a door style is discontinued here in the US. BUT it mays still be available overseas.

we do the same thing with my in laws and israel...she comes over 2-4x a year, i take advantage (she's good for that at least!)

Only fun part for kitchen stuff is that it's metric Faktum everywhere else ... and the US is still stuck using the English measurements.

Relatives could be a big help. Flying out of NYC airports you often see people with many big boxes as luggage. And Ikea is ideal for re-shipping.

Actually i was thinking of something more regular maybe through ebay or something with a little help from Ikea.
Just thought i would pass the idea along.

I thought that a lot of that funny odd measurements were because of them being actually metric sizes.
Are the Acktum really made to US measurements? Is this specially done for kitchen stuff?

To a certain extent, it's metric (ie. 32mm hole spacing), but the widths are to n/a standards.

40cm = 15-3/4"
60cm = 23-5/8"
80cm = 31-1/2"
