Hi People What a great site this is for all us first time kitchen renovators.
Let me give you an update as to where we are at: Several weeks ago I posted a desperate Post looking for Emsen round sink plattens after I had been told and had confirmed that these sinks would be discontinued – Well we now have 2 sinks and 3 of each accessory. I think the Brisbane Australia IKEA has become the dumping ground for these at US$27 each – they have tons of them now.
We now have around 120 packages of Stat/Perfekt cabs after 3 trips to IKEA. Why three trips you say – well I have a planning committee of one wife and one daughter (luckily the m-inlaw is going overseas for 4 weeks). What I have learnt doing this project slowly is by having the actual item in your possession we were able to consider the location and position of the item before unpacking it – prior to this I would have belted home with everything and worked through the night to assemble it – then realized my mistake. The IKEA return policy is a really good thing.
Anyway – advice needed please:
Note the plans are in Metric with Faktum cabinets
Looking at the window/sink side – which is 2.97mtrs – I have left a 7in/17cm gap to have the slide-out tea towel rack – would you attach this to the Perfekt cabinet or the wall? Is it possible to do what I have done with the Perfekt cabinet next to the dishwasher – what does it attach to? The planner lets you do it. There will be an ASKVIT roll top on top of the bench in the left corner.
The benchtops will be either Granite, Ceasarstone or the new IKEA stone tops once we see them. The island is 4 80cm/32in cabinets in a 2x2 with a 12in overhang – is this too big?
On the long side next to the Fridge I think we have some challenges. The planner let me put a cover panel in what looks to be like it’s suspended in mid air – we also want to bring the over-fridge cabinet forward and up – is all this feasible? How would you achieve it?
btw - all the full height cabs are pullout-outs - the planner doesn't have these
In the laundry we have left an 8in wide gap at the wall end so we can store the ironing board – would you dress this up in anyway – otherwise it’s just one floor to ceiling cavity.
I am not a carpenter, electrician or plumber so I need good direction or my planning committee will get angry with me. (Note where I have used the “I” and the “We” – I usually means a potential mistake.
Thanks
PS - As there is an incompatibality between the US and Australian Planners probably due to products I have now uploaded pdfs of the plans so that it might help any generous soul willing to offer advice.

Reason: Incompatibity between planners
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
There is an incompatibilty between the US and Austrlain planers unless you download the right files.
I have now attached PDFs to the original post to help any body willing to help

Hi mfhau! I don't think I can help much as I am quite a newbie but I do have two little suggestions...

This thread shows Heather's AMAZING job of enclosing a fridge with cover panels and fridge cabinets: fridge magic
And in terms of the ironing board, personally, that is just the way I would like it. Maybe stick a hook in there if you need it. But I would want to just get it out in a hurry and get done with it! And since it is in a laundry center, it won't look funny when it shows. But just my humble opinion here! I'm sure there are lots of cool mods you could do too..
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
You've said nothing wrong. On occasion, some threads get overlooked.
At a quick glance, it appears you have your range beside the pantry. I would swap your range with the other base cabinet so you have elbow room on both sides of the range.
You can build out with 2 x 4's the above fridge cabinet. I have pics of it being done in my gallery.
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
The Perfekt cabinet with cubbies is only 12" deep so you'll need to attach it to something. A 3/4" thick sheet of plywood with trim at the front (or an oven panel) between the Perfekt and the dishwasher would give you that attachment point and also support the benchtop over the dishwasher. (Helpful article here: How to install a dishwasher at the end of a cabinet run) If the slide for the towel rack is longer than 12" then you must attach it to the wall, otherwise it could be attached to either the wall or the Perfekt cabinet or you could put another panel between the Perfekt and the towel area.
What is the distance between the island and the perimeter cabinets? 36" is bare minimum, 42" or 48" is better. Which side of the island will the overhang be? If it's on the short end (furthest from the sink), you should still be able to reach the middle for cleaning. If it's on the side furthest from the refrigerator, then it may be too wide to reach the middle. Also, you then wouldn't be able to use drawers there under the overhang.
For the ironing board, it would be fine to leave it open, or you could fashion a door of sorts. Here's an example of one way it's been done: Here is my 9 inch broom closet- thank you, Narf
I agree with Madeline, if you can move the range over some to get counterspace on both sides, it would be more comfortable to use.
I hope that's helpful. Please feel free to bump up threads if you haven't gotten a response. Sometimes things get missed.

Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
Many many thanks for this advice. The debate has now begun.
All I have to do now is find that carpenter!!!
We are planning to have the overhang at the oppopsite end to the sinks or turn the island and have the overhang at opposoite end to the fridge so you are looking in to the kitchen if you are sitting there.. As the room is open the island can be placed where the distance is acceptable.
Anybody got any views on this - picture attched showing space.
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
If you could post a layout of your kitchen with dimensions, where doorways are and where there are walls vs openings, it would be most helpful to see if anything else can be done to make it more functional for you.
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
all the plans are in my first post - do you need them in any other format?
one needs to look at the plan and pictures - there are walls on only two sides of the kitchen - the rest of the family room is open plan.
I have spoken with my electrician and he will run power to the island which is a plus - we will put the power point in the floor under the island so that we dont have to secure the island to the floor - where would you put a power board ? We will have a microwave in the island by putting in a shelf in lieu of one set of top drawers. Am i confusing you??
Re: Stat Kitchen (and Laundry) advice needed please
Ok, that's what I wanted to know.........where exactly your walls were and were not. I see that your kitchen is 9ft 7 inches wide x 13 ft long. So, the island is completely open to the living area. I was thinking that it might have been pushed up against a wall. Your cabinets are different sizes than ours, so I don't have a way to work up a plan in the planner to help you.
What I can suggest is that IF you definitely want an island vs. a peninsula, I would place the dishwasher at the end of the cabinet run on the sink side with a cover panel attached to the outside.
So, I will tell you what I would have done in my planner with our cabinet dimensions:
On that window wall from left to right: 24" dishwasher, 30" sink base, 30" drawer base, (2) 1" filler pieces, dead corner, then:
On stove wall from left to right: the dead corner, (2) 1" filler pieces, 18" drawer base, 30" stove, 18" drawer base, High Cover Panel, 36" Refrigerator, High Cover Panel, 24" High Pantry, High Cover Panel.
I think putting your pantry to the right of the refrigerator will help to visually frame the area. As long as you have a minimum of a 36" clearance between your island and your kitchen sink wall, you should be fine. Allowing at least 48" between the island and cooking wall would be better. Adjust the size of your island cabinetry accordingly.
I didn't see that you posted the size of your window and how far out from the stove wall it measures. Therefore, the placement of the cabinetry I've chosen may not align your sink under the center of the window. I arranged them accordingly so you would have the most counterspace to use for prepping.
As far as a towel rack, I'm sure you can probably purchase something that you could attached to the interior of the sink base, as well as a trash pullout for under the sink.
If you have the room, at least a 15" overhang on the island would be better for knee room. Hope this gives you some ideas.
