Hi there. I'm hoping you guys will know this. I posted below about the new SORBO range but I'm wondering what kind of finish these cabinets are going to have? What is melamine foil? Will it be high gloss? Like Abstrakt or like Applad or not like either of these? Will it be more like Arlig - basic melamine?

I'm hanging on for these doors but I'm beginning to have doubts as often you build something up only to be disappointed!

According to IKEA, the Sorbo doors are ' dark-grey melamine-faced particleboard with edges of clear-laquered birch'. My guess is that these will not be high-gloss (as in Abstrakt) but more like the Arlig beech finish. Unfortunateley nobody will know the exact finish until samples actually make it to the stores - but the design sounds quite dramatic (along with the Nexus brown-black).

Hi Torrus. Thanks for the reply. I had no idea that the sORBO grey would have edges of solid birch. I can't see that on this website under new for 2007. Can you tell me where you read that description so I can go look.........?

Mind you, I just looked again and the smaller pic next to the large version of SORBO grey does look like it has some sort of wood surround. Never noticed that before. What an unusual door!

That info was on a 'non-public' IKEA network - however, the Sorbo doors are now available for ordering (at least in Canada).

Torrus - available for ordering in-store but still not updated onto their website? Is that right or am I missing something?

The kitchen portion of the web site often lags behind actual availabilty - I was able to order a Sorbo door on Monday.
