Are the basiccheapplastic ikea legs on base cabinets strong enough for granite countertop?
We are putting our Ikea kitchen together (Adel Birch) - and one of our friends made a comment about the plastic legsand whether a granite countertop will be too heavy on the plastic black legs that go on the base cabinets.
Any thoughts? comments? Looking for advice. It is not too late for us to use the stainless steel legs if that would be better.
I know they don't seem very strong, but they're rated for 125K/275lbs EACH. Here's another thread on this very subject: Can Akurum Leg?
Welcome to the forums! We put soapstone on ours...20lbs/sq. ft. It's fine.

You mention your granite countertop over a 3/4 inch plywood base. When I spoke with our granite installer he said you can't put a plywood underlayment under the granite or the granite lip will not cover the gap caused by the underlayment. He says to just put it on the cabinet structure without the underlayment. Thoughts?
Both the place I bought it and my brother said granite really needs support from beneath - maybe that would be different if you had a slab thicker than my 1" slab. Lots of granite gets installed with a built up edge, which is probably there to cover the underlayment. Since I used a prefabricated slab, Mine is just a bullnosed edge. The shop said I could use either 1/2" or 3/4" ply, but recommended the 3/4" because it's the size of that iron-on edging that comes in lots of finishes.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check this out some more. I just don't feel comfortable not putting it on an underlayment, but I've got to make sure they'res no visible gap.
You will need the 4" legs for sure. If you didn't have them the counters would set too low. Plus they are designed for the cabinet and the snap ons for the bottom strip fit the legs.
I'm not visualizing what you are talking about with "iron on edging"?? I can't see a visible gap in your picture, but wonder if the bullnose is thicker than the rest of teh body of the slab, i.e.; 1/2 inch hang below up front?
The granite is sitting on top of a piece of plywood which has white edgebanding iron-on along the front edge. The bullnose does not cover the plywood.
If the plywood were not there, the granite would sit directly above the drawerfront, since IKEA cabinets have the door and drawer faces flush with the edge of the cabinet.
Iron on edgebanding is a strip of veneer that is about 3/4 inch wide, which comes in a roll, and is ironed on to the exposed edge of plywood to cover the laminated layers which are not attractive when viewed side-on.
