Zeuss's sister's Abstrakt Red kitchen

I know this is the planning thread but I want to share the fact that I FINALLY HAVE PHOTOS!!!!!!

It was my sister's 40th birthday so I got a chance to snap some photos during the party prep. So excuse the food trays in the various photos. The photos of her 3 daughters that I fixed up in photoshop are now up on the wall and looking good.

There are still a few things that need done:
  • the window treatments need sewn
  • light fixtures are still missing
  • mouldings need installed
  • blackboard wall needs dressed up
  • a couple drawer handles & 1 drawer front
The tile is from modwalls it is called PopArt blend
Counter is homemade from Pyronite laminate
Sink is Blanco with Moen faucet (second sink is cheap crap from home depot)
Kitchenaid food processor was her birthday present from us (she already had the Kitchenaid coffee pot and mixer)
The floors are commercial grade vinyl composite

There are several modifications I should list.
  • 9" wide base cabinet left of stove (was 12" door)
  • above fridge cabinet was shortened
  • blind upper cabinet left of stove
  • 24" pantries (2 of them) have drawer and door combos.
  • 15" 4drawer base was cut down to 3drawer base to make the computer desk

Re: Zeuss's sister's Abstrakt Red kitchen

It's lovely...very hip and a little funky! I love the op-art piece you made, it has such personality! And you did the countertop yourself? Awesome! A very spacious, fun, exciting space. Huge amounts of storage!!

Are they planning on changing out the OTR micro? I ask because I saw another micro in there, and wondered if they were going to use both or if one was being changed out. And where is the fridge?

We're going to sew the roman blinds out of this fabric for my sister's kitchen. It is from Contemporary Cloth

The OTR microwave was a really good one they bought before the kitchen reno was on the horizon. It is really nice and big. But my sister hated how other people would be in her work zone to heat something up or make oatmeal etc. So we kept her big one that she uses a lot to prepare meals and added that little stainless steel microwave in the snack centre for everyone else to use. It works really well for them. The breakfast food and snack stuff is all over there. Plus the coffee maker.

And she has so much storage that some of the drawers and shelves are still empty!

The white fridge (Maytag french door) is to the left of the sink/dishwasher. It is faux built-in like the washer/dryer.

I often use both microwaves at the same time. I Really cook in my kitchen.

My DH and BIL did the counters.. My BIL has done many himself and was a great help. The fridge is between the computer and the sink.

Re: Zeuss's sister's Abstrakt Red kitchen

Jane, you must be the "sister", right? I love your kitchen and wish I had five or six kitchens I could use in a rotating fashion, because there are so many I love...Abstrakt Red is such a bold look and it would thrill me to be able to cook in that kitchen!

Re: Zeuss's sister's Abstrakt Red kitchen

WOW! That is fantastic! Zeuss and Jane, congrats to you both! That is a great looking room. It's fun and different, and the storage is just incredible. I really love the built in look to the washer dryer. The Roman shades will be spectacular, I am sure!
