I will have to check with code in the state of Connecticut, but I think in order to get our Certificate of Occupancy we need to have a vent hood over our stove. The microwave/hood is currently over our stove and I rarely turn the stupid vent/fan on so I would love to be able to skip a hood/fan all together and put the microwave built in some other spot in our kitchen.

Does anyone know if you need to have a hood?? Kathy - I know with the original style Aga you have the vent pipe and I guess don't need to have a hood at all.

We are going to do a tile backsplash and I just went to the tile store, where I was completely overwhelmed, and I have someone coming to measure so I can figure out what I can and can not afford. Everything I liked today the lady kept telling me "Oh that's very expensive." argh. Why can't what I like be cheap?????

Photos of current state

Hi all - we are slowly getting there. The whole house is being painted at the moment. Water comes out of sinks and toilets flush! Bathrooms are being tiled today. Gas line has been hooked up for our stove and our on-demand water heater.

My husband is up in Vermont as I write picking up our gorgeous stove. I can't wait to see it in place! I am taking the day off of work tomorrow, kids will be in pre-school, so that I can finish putting cabinets together for the island and install the innards etc. I have a lot of doors to paint!

I have decided to paint the cabinets a cream color, except the center island will be that dark grey/green. I love the Ikea butcher block counters, which you can't see in the attached photos as they are covered by drop cloths b/c of painting the ceiling. I will take more!

Thank you to all for all the help here. Can't believe it, but I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Dana
Thank-you very much about your wonderful comments about my kitchen (and me:-) on my thread...

I have to admit that I religiously follow the progress and very much admire your Timberframe home (until now I was a secret admirer but not any longer:-)).
There is an incredible charm radiating from the house (natural surroundings, exposed wood, open design and absolutely wonderful natural light all around)...
I can see that you are clearly succeeding in persuading materials and humans to cooperate with your design :-) and things are progressing very well.
This beautiful house will be a witness of your twins childhood ...and its good, clean architecture and interior design will make its distinctive contribution into family happiness.
Savour every moment in the Timberframe home...

Thank you Jack - and Eva - for your kind words.

Our land is deep in the woods surrounded by nature - and this barn home fits into it perfectly. But I do have to admit a certain envy when I see the beautiful clean crisp modern kitchens on this site. Especially yours Jack!

My in-laws lived a beautiful comfortable life - they had their early 19th century home here in CT that was beautifully decorated with antiques - and then a small apartment in NYC that was completely modern. I loved that the two were so different.

So I will keep buying a lottery ticket every so often!

My husband arrived home safely with our stove around 5:00 yesterday. He was up around that time to leave as the kitchen place was in Burlington. Waay the heck up in Vermont! After the kids were in bed I went down and just stared at it still stitting in our trailer in the grarage. It struck me that I think the heart of our home has arrived. Helps that it is bright red! But really - when I think of actually being in our new house - that big open room with the kitchen, living area, dining area and the raised hearth fire place will be the heart of the house. I am just itching to get in their and bring it alive. And my just-turned-2 twins need the open space to run!

They are big fans of Little Bear on Noggin (which is on as I type) and they think our new house is Little Bear's house. Every time we go down there: "Bear's House!" And it does kind of look like Little Bear's house. Just wish I could be more like Mother Bear: always calm, always making yummy soups and cookies and pies. I am going to start wearing an apron all the time. Perhaps that will help.

I should be able to get a lot done on the cabinets today with A & P in school, so I will hopefully have some more photographs later.

Kathy - lets hope the Aga sleeps through sooner than my 2 did!!

Well - here is a shot of it in our garage. They are going to move it into the kitchen today. Can't wait to see it in place. The Aga engineer will come after Christmas to switch it from Natural Gas to Propane, so until then we will only be able to use the ovens. Think we will buy a cheap plug in stove top at Lowes or someplace to tide us over.

We got our Certificate of Occupancy today!! Yahoo! We are going to start moving in next weekend just in time for Christmas. We are having Christmas Eve at our house. We might be all sitting on the floor, but we will be there!

I'll post some photos of the stove in place tomorrow. Our kitchen island is also done. Off to pick up the floor sander when the kids wake up from their nap. Guess what I am doing tonight once the kids are in bed.

That's a thing of beauty! I was drooling over the Legacy at Expo the other day. I don't think it should be any color OTHER than red. LOL

Congrats on the C of O. What an awesome Christmas present!

I checked quickly on the Aga site ...it has broling oven, roasting oven, baking oven and simmering oven...each in a separate compartment.
It definitely fired my imagination...and it is so wonderfully red...
Dana, you wrote "I think the heart of our home has arrived". It makes perfect sense to me.
Congrats.
