I guess my track record is about the same. Sometimes it seems that an unchosen house meets their stated criteria much better. Of course, now that I know that many times they didn't really see these houses before the purchase, I don't feel so bad.
Goodness. How did I miss these last posts - sorry guys.
Alydev - you can just come right over here and let me give you a big hug. I'm thrilled that you like my kitchen! Oh and the grout we used was light pewter - did I pm that to you already?
As to the House Hunters thing, still no word. Could be spring before it airs - no idea. I'll let you know when it's on, I promise.
As for watching that show anymore - I can't. I cringe whenever I watch it. Especially when I hear someone bitch about a paint color and I know that there are people all over America yelling "IT'S JUST PAINT!" I know that it's probably not the house they picked and they're probably stumped for something to say about a room that they otherwise might have just breezed through with nary a comment.
Red - I still love my Formica. We went with a beveled edge for ours and that was strictly a matter of time. It was the "fanciest" or most interesting edge we could get given our time constraints. Anything else wouldn't have made it to us in time for the taping of the show. That said, I like it. We've only been "done" for what? Two months? And we've not had any problems with chipping. BUT...one of the reasons that I got laminate was that if I felt it was looking really crappy I wouldn't feel sick ripping it out and repurposing it for a laundry room or donating to an architectural salvage or, heck, even tossing it (I'm wasteful that way). I love love love love the boomerang. My parents have had a laminate countertop with the wood edges - a look I don't love - for about 6 years now and it's held up beautifully.
So...I don't have an air date for our House Hunters episode but I do have an episode number.
2211
There you go. When I went on HGTV's site last night, I saw that they're up to the 2000s so you know...only 200 more episodes until it airs.
Now...remember...when you see me comment on a paint color or the wallpaper...it's because I've got nothing else to say about the room and I was forced to say something.
How could they keep us waiting like this?! Don't they know we're on pins and needles? Btw, I have that IKEAFANS T-shirt for you now... Look for IKEAFANS Marketplace in the next couple of hours. Here's what one looks like:
And, you'll get a few of our FanClub cards so that you can actively participate in our world takeover plot.
Tee hee!

Where did you get these green tiles from? They are awesome.

And potential backsplash option with paint sample and counter top sample on top of drawer front
Jenn - your kitchen has made me the tile evangelist for beach glass subway tile! I have a question for you: I just installed a new vanity with a formica counter. I didn't scribe the sides of the counter perfectly, so there are spaces where I have just under 1/4" gap between wall and counter. I was thinking about the beach glass tiles as a mini backsplash/sidesplash - I would probably use just 2 rows. With grout to fill the bigger gaps, do you think these tiles would work, or are they wafer-thin? Also, what's the finish like on the top edge - would I be able to leave the top edge of the row of tiles exposed? Thanks!
Kathy
I'm about to hit the treadmill but I have lots of left over tile and I'll measure them. All of the edges of the tile are finished in the same way - in fact, if it wasn't for the mesh backing, you could probably use the back of the tile as the front.
