Hey Jenn! It must be great to finally see the cabs going in.
I have a question. Looks like your cabs are being installed before the walls and ceiling are painted. Why did you choose to do it this way? In my MN house which we just did last year, we had everything painted first, then the cabs installed. Now, in this house, I'm trying to decide which is better. This kitchen is bigger so it seems more efficient to put up cabs first, then paint. But, OTOH, won't it be more difficult for the painters to cut in around all the cabinets etc? Or am I totally missing something?
Also, are your wall cabs screwed together - like screwed to each other - after they were hung? Or do they just each individually hang on the rail, sitting politely adjacent?

I found two Ikea Oskar bar stools at a yard sale for $10 a piece. Ideally I'd like2 more but I'd settle for one more. Butthey don't sell them anymore...waaahhhh. Any ideas for where I could score one?
Jenswrens...the only reason we did the painting after the cabs was a matter of timing. In my ideal world, I would have painted before the cabs went in but the drywall wasn't dry enough in those areas and we went away and the cabs got installed. Not a huge deal but I think it makes more sense to paint before the cabs go in.
I've had good luck with setting an ebay alert on Stenskar bath cabs. Perhaps you can set a search alert for Oskar and get an email everytime they go up. I know you can do something similar for craigslist, but I don't know the details.
Jenn it looks fabulous! I love your flooring pick and that glass!

Those are real hardwood floors, yes? And it looks like they got sanded and finished before the cabs were installed. My guys are telling me they would put down the new wood then wait until after all the installation was done, then refinish - so that the construction didn't ruin the new finish. How did you decide what order to go in?Â*
Your kitchen is roughly the same size as mine, so it gives me great inspiration to see how ours can look opened-up to theliving room. What type of floor is it? I love the color. What a find on the bar stools!!

Kate,
In our MN kitchen renovation last year, we had the wood floors refinished before the cabinets were installed. Makes it much easier on the floor guys and they won't harm your new cabinets with all their equipment. The floor can be protected during the rest of the cab and appliance install with paper, cardboard or those padded blankets (like what movers use). We only got one little scratch in oursfrom the refrigerator (and it's practically under the fridge, so it doesn't show anyway).

Regarding painting before or after cabinet installation, our painter preferred to be the last trade in, so we agreed. I'm really glad we did. Before he painted I was kind of kicking myself for not ripping out all the drywall becauseit had some rough patches where3 layers of wallpaper haddefied my command to unstick itself from the wall! He fixed allthat, plus the other minor damage caused by the granite guys and the electrician.
Regarding the floors. We had new pre-finished hardwood flooring installed early in our renovation. Everyone was really careful about not damaging it and it survived.
We had unfinished floors put in the kitchen part to match up, somewhat, with what's in the rest of the first floor. The floor guys then came in and refinished after the majority of the demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywalling and upper cabs were done. After they refinished the floors, Tony put in the lower cabinets.
Thanks everyone else! This makes it feel like it'll be any day now when I'll be through with washing dishes in the powder room or laundry sink and I'll be able to cook in my kitchen - gasp!
Tomorrow, I'm guessing, is more appliance installation and then countertops on Tuesday, I think. So then we get a sink as well - whoopee!
