Well, I'm a bit late to the party and we are already about half way but I thought I'd add some pictures of our kitchen revamp for anyone who might be interested. Seeing as I have used this site and all your knowledge to get part of the way there I thought I ought to give some feedback!

We live in the UK, about an hour from London ina small 3-bed house. It's modern by European standards i.e. it was built in 1959, but it has a little bit of character and feels a bit like a modern cottage. We decided to go with a contemporary kitchen and I stumbled upon the excellent prices at IKEA and that's when we spotted the Abstrakt black doors.

Thenwe discovered the black was discontinued !! So we have had the black doors made-to-measure and the base cabinets are not IKEA now either as they weren't big enough to fit in all the integrated appliances. The wall cabinets we decided on white. The worktops had to be custom cut from elsewhere also, as we needed a longer piece than IKEA could provide in-store.

So, what we have isAbstrakt white doors & frameson the walls, an IKEA microwave and the breakfast bar cabinets will all be IKEA whitetoo. BUT, the whole design started because of the Abstrakt black display we saw.

So, here's how we started a few months ago with the plaster hanging off the walls and a very unnattractive and old fashioned pine country kitchen with doors missing.

And these are the tiles - they are large (in a small kitchen) and are just over 2 feet square and are porcelain.

So, after plastering, painting the room white and getting a subfloor down (ready for the floor heating/tiles) the base cabinets started to go in. This was a couple of months ago and you can see there's some sort of pull-out wire rack in every corner!!

And if I haven't bored you all senseless with kitchen photos by now here is how it all looked this morning after another hard slog over the weekend. As you can see, it's getting there. A lot of finishing still to do and more wall cabinets to go up, breakfast bars to do and wallpaper etc to be done. But it is clean and useable at last!

Wow! It's really shaping up, and thanks for the before pic too. I love to see them. You have a lovely view out your kitchen windows, too. Do you have a planner photo of what the breakfast bar will look like?

One of the things that I like about the Ikea site is how members even embrace us 'hybrids,' Ie, people who mix and match Ikea cabinetry, have our initial inspiration from Ikea cabinetry, heck even the people who just accessorize with Ikea!

Edited to add:
Are you doing all the work yourselves? If so, even more power to you!
