Hi... I was recommended by Tigartrus to join the forum/blog to share and ask questions.
We are having our unfinished basement done in a week or two. We have been researching for cabinets everywhere, and Ikea has the best deals. And I have been playing with designing on the Ikea kitchen planning for about two weeks!
Of course its fun but there were times I get frustrated trying to get this smooth out.
I have questions:
1) I have an inner wall (wet bar wall) that is 93 1/8 inches, and I have put the cabinets together and it came out 94 inches. The cover panel is what takes up space, but without it, we would see the white part of the cabinet, which we do not want that.
2) We would not like to have a wall cabinet for the microwave, we would like to have microwave in the base cabinet and I found one of the pictures in Ikea fans website, and have been struggling to figure out how to do that. Can anyone help?
3) Can I buy just the doors alone for the back of the bar where we will add bar stools there?
I can't think of any question right now, but these questions are the ones I want to know. LOL
Will be posting the floor plan in a bit.
Look forward to hear from you all soon..

To fill the gap, take that cover panel and scribe a line to match the wall, then cut that piece off to fill the space between the cabinet and wall. You fill it with the face of the panel, instead of the edge.
Either that (if it's too thin to work well, in your opinion), or paint the sides of the cabinets that would show white, thereby hiding them a bit. Since they've got all of < 1" space between the wall and cabinet side (if I understand correctly), it wouldn't be very noticeable.
another option is getting a thin luan sheet or other laminate and staining/sealing it to match the adel med brown and adhering that to the side of the cabinet with a glue of some sort (liquid nails). That way, you continue the wood look around the sides.
I agree- you would want to use the cover panels for your chosen door style on the back of the cabinets in the bar area- that's one of their many intended uses.
microwaves are typically built in using a shelf and no door- you'll need to buy what's called edge banding if your door style (and hence cover panels etc) do not match the white or birch of the cabinet boxes. Some people paint as well. Then, you just use a drawer below.
We look forward to seeing your plans- and if we didn't answer your questions, let us know!
Thanks - the microwave is just sitting on a shelf in a 30" cabinet. Nothing fancy. We're still undecided on what to do with the doors (currently full-height, so we have to open the doors to operate the microwave).
As for posting pictures you can either upload them into the Gallery (click Gallery link in the blue navbar, then click the silver "Upload" button) and then when you're typing your post look underneath the Smilies selection box to the right of your post text editor box and you should see a link "My Pictures" that will bring up a popup that allows you to access any images you've either uploaded, or put in an album in the Gallery. Just click on the picture you want to add and it'll drop a thumbnail in the post editor. The other way is to attach it via the "Manage Attachments" button in that you should see in the "Additional Options" area at the bottom of the screen when you're typing out your post. Just scroll down and you should see it.

Animes2k,
Wow, that s another good idea... did you still decide to keep the full length doors, or change it to smaller size doors?
It looks like I am going to go for the cooktop cabinet, and just take the two top drawers, and middle drawers out for the microwave, and leave the bottom drawer alone.
I am the one who keeps changing mind, this or that or this or that, but I showed that to my husbands of different ideas, and he said he likes the cooktop cabinet better. So the decision is made!
I have to say, alot of you have been EXTREMELY helpful! This Ikeafans site is sure has a lot of friendly people here.
I just got home from shopping, so now I can sit down and determine to get the floor plan posted.. Bear with me *grins*
