I just subscribed to a menu-mailer at www.savingdinner.com (this has been my real dream for years) and they give the make-ahead dinners to freeze in gallon zip-locs for a week or a month -- whatever -- as well as weekly fresh-menus & shopping lists, etc. So that is what the freezer is really about -- and to go to the bread outlet & buy a HUGE plastic bag full of loaves (some quite elegant) -- ah!
I had to give up a lot of counter space to have them, but with the island (which I endeavor to clear & photograph today), I should have enough space. Being able to find things is 90% of the doing.

You can see more when I clean more (I have 4 kids + my mom -- I'm defending my dissertation in a few weeks & I'm trying to leave town for a week in April!)
But really, I think I'll just look to post the "done" pics -- and "done" means undercab lights & backsplash. But I have to pick a backsplash first -- and I'm waffling on the shiny tiles I posted about on the backsplash thread -- I saw some lovely brown subway tiles -- and I must go look at the sheetmetal showroom before I make any irretreivable decisions.
And send me an e-mail and I'll send you a freezer menu & a fresh dinner menu (week) for anyone interested.
I've been so depressed over my project -- we had a little flood upstairs that ruined a good deal of our downstairs (brand new) drywall -- but all cabs are fine. Also, my dog chewed an end panel -- but the happy side is that I got one in the as-is room for $2 Now I just have to switch it out
So then my guys have been working on the laundry room -- which used to be a porch -- and they found that 40 years ago (give or take), there were termites, so under the house they went to fix the foundation & siding -- OMG -- it was HORRIBLE. And then new windows, drywall, fix (strip) and re-paint all the doors . . . not very IKEA, but had to be done. I've put here some IKEA shoe shelves that we put between the "mudroom" and laundry room. They don't hold as much as I'd like . . . but we have a lot of shoes . . .
And one depressing photo of the flooding (as it happened) and one photo I like to call "cat & mouse."
Karen,
I've been wondering what happened with your reno! So sorry to hear about your leak - that rain Christmas Day was a BIG one!
It rained IN the bathroom of our doublewide - but that just got us underway with our new house. They've moved fast with it - at least the dry weather we've been having was good for something. Broke
ground March 28, drywall is almost finished (ceiling texture to go on today or tomorrow).
The Stat door you gave me converted DH - we're still using Tidaholm in the kitchen, but Stat in the baths and laundry. All the cabinets are sitting in my barn waiting for the house to get far enough along. I think as soon as they start laying tile in the kitchen, we'll carry all the cabinets over and start assembling.
Your porch to mudroom conversion looks great - is that the porch I came in through off the car port?
