I've been looking at this sofa for quite awhile but I don't know how good the quality for this is. For example, is the cushion going to start sinking after a year or is the stuffings inside the cushion will start crumbling up in a year. Has anyone tried this piece of furniture yet? If not, can someone tell me their experiences with Ikea sofas? Thanks in advance!
I've had this sofa, with an added extension, for over a year.
It's ok . . . . but the seat cushions definitely sag. Luckily they don't crumble. Personally I wish the seat cushions were made of something firmer that would hold it's shape a bit longer, and that the seat covers were reversible or at least rotatable. I really like the crisp, clean, modular geometric design of Tylosand but it does lose it's "edge" over time. Also, the first one I bought had lots of loose and broken screws falling out of it so Ikea replaced the whole thing. I'm not sure if that was a quality control issue or I just got a lemon???
Hope that helps?
Ted
I've had mine 3 years in my family room and I agree the cushions do sag a bit, but not too much. I wish it was firmer. What I don't like is how deep the couch is. I got cylindrical bolsters cut at the foam store and covered them to help add needed support at your back.
However, the kids love it because they don't sit with their back at the back and their feet on the floor. They sit all over in every weird position.
Also, I have the orange and love the colour. It is great having an orange couch!
The fabric really stands up well - and I have 2 kids and 2 beagles.
well, just got one (the sofabed variety), and love it.
got the sand peach peel like fabric covers, 'cause i was afraid my kittie would have looooved the other textured covers (read hmmm claw heaven)
My 2 cats haven't done anything to the orange velour-like fabric. With 2 kids, 2 cats and 2 dogs, the fabric is great. It is the firmness of the foam that is the only problem.
That and it is really really hard to get the slipcovers on.
Yes, the slipcovers are definitely tight. I've taken the cushions out a few times to rotate them and I've currently put them in upside down because the bottom is a slab of foam without padding so it doesn't look as mushy.
I bought some of the dark red slipcovers when they were discontinued and mix them up with the orange.
How good is the Tylosand sofas? TYLOSAND seat cushions - sag - collapse - low quality foam - short life - terrfible disappoitment.
IKEA TYLOSAND is a definite DON'T BUY - BAD BUY - very poor choice.
We bought over $2500 of IKEA TYLOSAND modular couch furniture and the foam seat cushions started sagging and collapsing very soon under normal daily use by 3 adults in our TV room.
The IKEA TYLOSAND foam cushions are very poor quality, and now there are huge sagged and collapsed areas in the seat cushions.
The Toronto-area IKEA store at which we bought the IKEA TYLOSAND unit has been of no assistance at all.
They seemed to say that it was our fault from "too heavy use" (me heavy?! I weigh 190 lbs! and sit or lie on the IKEA TYLOSAND every evening... so what's your point, IKEA?)...
...and that the IKEA TYLOSAND units were out of the one year warranty so there was nothing they could do.
One year life on a $2500 chesterfied couch unit?! Is absurd, no?
This IKEA TYLOSAND is a terrible disappointment. The IKEA TYLOSAND system is a definite DON'T BUY - BAD BUY - WASTE OF MONEY - very poor choice.
My seat covers held up fine, but the foam definitely started losing its shape and structure. It isn't comfortable to sit on any more, but the kids don't seem to notice.
