Suggestions wanted: lighting for living room with high ceiling

Hi IkeaFan people!

I just bought a house with a double-height ceiling in the living room area with a skylight like this:

Any ideas/suggestions on how you would light this area? I would think "normal" uplights would not reach the ceiling, and "normal" downlights would also not be enough... therefore I would need both.

Design ideas (layout/decor) would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

That's a lovely space!

I've seen spaces like that with hanging chandeliers to bring lighting down to normal ceiling levels. The spread of can lights would be way too wide by the time the light reached the living space, I think, so no point in even attempting to install them. Figure out where your furnishings would go and you could either place a couple of chandeliers as lighting on either side of your seating area, or one larger central fixture and then table lamps as additional lighting.

I think a cluster of large hanging lights (like 3), spaced at different heights would look amazing in that space.

somthing like this would seem great for the living space
IKEA | Lighting | Floor lamps | REGOLIT | Floor lamp, bow

get some track lights up top to light up the upper walls, not necessarily the space. it would look awesome if you got some giant pictures or something.

i also like the idea of 3 lights hung at different heights.

Re: Suggestions wanted: lighting for living room with high ceiling

I'm seeing potential for greatness in enhancing the square motif. The floor tiles and windows have square designs.

The Orgel series would give you a lot of choices to play with square shapes:

Use eight 10"x30" Orgel rectangular wall lamps to create a box-shaped light feature on the wall adjacent to the upper window. Or place them around the upper window.

Really go for impact and create a voluminous custom chandelier using four, eight or twelve of the five-segment Orgel pendant light. Affix a simple square face to the cieling to hide the cord connections, and vary the heights of the strings to look good from outside high window and descend enough to fill the upper volume of the room.

Box-shaped Orgel wall, table or floor lamps could continue the lighting theme.

Your furniture could be low-slung boxy (Kramfors, I'm looking at you), or smooth and fluid (Tirup) as a contrast the squares you have in place.

If you choose a boxy geometry for the furnishings, a monochromatic palate would look nice.

Good luck with your room. Would love to see photos of your "after."

Hey Boblow,

Am surprised to see your posting! We have recently bought a place in your neighbourhood too! Really wondering whether you have managed to do up your living room!
