I'd like to buy a Besta 120x20x64 to put in my CDs. I'd like to put in 2 extra shelves so i have 4 rows of CDs on each side.
Has anyone tried this? I think there's just enough space for 3 shelves and 4 rows of CDs - but it will be very tight, maybe too tight... Any experience?
The other idea would be putting in glass shelves because they are slimmer. The only problem is that they don't exist in 56x16... I would have to order them somewhere else and I guess that would not be cheap.
Oooh... it *might* be doable... but it might also be just tooo tight.
You can certainly get glass shelves, but they will be -expensive-. It's surprising how much they cost (you can get a quote from any glass place around... just "look in the Yellow Pages" for the nearest one)
I'm wondering if maybe 3/8" plywood might be enough... Hmmm...
What about if you allowed sufficient space for 3 rows to stand upright, and then one row for your CDs to be stacked horizontally? So 6" between the 3, and 4" (or whatever) on the last one?
Depends on how thick it is. I would say that 10 mm (~3/8") would be more than enough for CDs. In fact, I've seen loaded kitchen cabinets with 3/8" plexiglass shelves and they seemed to hold up quite well.
I checked just how expensive glass would be. And it's... quite expensive but ok-ish.
If I go for plexi, I'm back with the problem that the shelves are too thick. I considered glass in the first place because it's slimmer, so more space for my CDs.
I guess I just have to decide if the glass and the money involved are worth it...
