Cutting Dark-Brown Wood Venetian Blinds (Lindmon)

We bought about 15 dark-brown Lindmon Venetian blinds. (IKEA | home | Textiles & rugs | Curtains & blinds | blinds | LINDMON Venetian blind)
They all measure 35 3/4" by 61".

We really need it just a tad shorter than 35" to make it fit inside the casing as suppose to outside. We prefer installing inside the casing because someone can peek thru the sides if we install outside the casing.

Has anyone tried cutting these before with a miter saw?
Is this a good idea? bad idea?
How do they turn out?

Thanks,
gompol

We couldn't get the right size for our windows, and decided not to try to trim them. If you do try it, please let me know how it goes.

Yes. I ended up cutting about half-inch on both sides.

I used my circular saw to cut the metal headbox first.
I bought a blade for 10$ specifically for metal at Home Depot.
The nice thing about this is you have about 1/2 inch room for error.
You can slide metal headbox after installing in the brackets.

I used my miter saw to saw off the wooden slats.
Go very slowly to prevent chipping.
But even if it chips, I have some touchup paint.
I need the paint to hide the unstained sides that was exposed after cutting.
Also here, you dont have to be extremely accurate.
I cut some with bad angles, but my wife did not even notice.

Once you get the hang of it, its really quite simple.

The blinds look great!! We love it!!
Hanging the blinds inside the window frame (as suppose to installing it outside on the trim) was a big improvement.
It doesnt look it was "forced" on the window.

Good luck with yours. Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Smile Glad to hear!

Thanks gompol, I'm glad it went so well. I'll pass the info on to DH . I don't remember the details, but he would need to cut off more than your 1/2".

I know what you mean about the blinds looking so much better inside the window frames.

None of our living room windows need blinds at this time of year, so it's easy to put this off for now. It's only when our trees have no leaves that we get a piercing glare through one of them in the afternoon.

Wooden venetian Blinds are much more durable than vertical blind. I will prefer wooden venetian blinds more than aluminum blinds as wooden blinds are much easier to clean. We had wooden blinds at our home. But now that I have moved to the city so I hardly get any time to buy things.
