We have our Varde kitchen pieces selected but live 6 hours from the closest Ikea. The plan is to go to Atlanta next weekend and pick it up. We want to make sure all the pieces are there when we get there but would also like to be able to "touch" them before buying. We are spending the weekend there and really don't want to pick it up until Monday AM, right before the drive home. What is the best way to do this? Can we go to the store Sunday and have the order pulled and ready for pickup Monday AM? Will there be anyone at the store to help load this stuff? Any help and suggestions welcome.
One of the nice things of Ikea is that their prices are low. They reach that by letting the customer do as many things by him-/herself. Someone Ikean helping you with loading or storing your order for some time adds to the costs, so probably they will not do it.
However there are some things you can do to prepare: on their website you can check out the size and weight of the boxes and whether it is in stock or not (not: how much stock there is).
Some items consist of two or more boxes, some boxes may weigh up to 40-50 kg.
You can try to let deliver it to you (at extra cost), I have good experiences with that, but that is in The Netherlands.
So go with company and a good sized car and have some fun. And good luck with building your kitchen.
We too live about 5 hrs from the closest store. I had most of the cabinets delivered and was surprised the shipping cost was only $120. for all. DH is at the 49'r game today and has picked up the last piece we needed.
You are going to LOVE the upper cabinets. They open up so no banging heads on open doors
Typically the VARDE units require a 'cash & carry' order from the kitchen dept. - pick-up at furniture handout. I would go to the store on the weekend, check out the items you want and enquire about stock, then go back first thing Monday morning - place the order and pick it up. Ask the co-worker at the handout desk to call for loading assistance - good luck.
Thanks for the replies. I looked into shipping and it was going to be about $500. No thanks. I have already looked up the package size and weights and will be renting a UHaul trailer that will hold everything. I would just hate to drive all that way and find out a piece was not in stock. I guess we will have to take our chances.
Just to let you know and anyone else following along, Shipping from IKEA Direct and delivery from the store are two completely different animals. If you place your order in store and then have it delivered, it is often quite a bit less expensive than the shipping costs IKEA Direct (ordering by phone) charges.
If an item is out of stock when you are there, ask them about delivering just that item. I hope it all goes well for you.
