Missing hardware!
I rented a truck, drove several hours to my nearest Ikea store and purchased over $3000 worth of furniture. The very first piece I get out to assemble, the Malm dresser, is missing one piece of hardware from the box, one of the drawer rails. I read on the customer service section of the website that the only way to fix this is to go back to Ikea with your receipt and ask for help. That is not an option at $4.00/gallon for gas and how far away we live. Also, I am very worried that other items we purchased are going to be short hardware in the box, and then we'll have no remedy because we purchased for the entire house we are remodeling to get our money's worth out of the trip and the truck, and just assembling items as the rooms they go in get finished. By the time the last item is assembled, it could be next year! Is it common to be shorted necessary assembly items? What do you do about this problem if you live far away from the store where you purchased your items like I do? What if I don't assemble everything I purchased right away and a year later I figure out something was shorted? Does this happen so often that I should worry and go ahead and assemble everything even though there's no place to put it with walls knocked out and no flooring? Or did I just have the bad fortune of the very first item I ever tried to assemble from Ikea being wrong and most things are just fine? Please help if you can.
