Please Help Me With My Order

Although I would rather go to IKEA in-person, dh believes it's possibly worth the $ to get the items we need through IKEA Direct rather than the cost of fuel/hotel/food/etc.

I called IKEA Direct, and they said shipping to our zip code would be:

1) A purchase over $1,000 and under 500 lbs. = $385.00

2) A purchase over $1,000 and over500 lbs = $525.00

We have purchased our own closet doors at a great price. There will be (3) 60" sliding closet doors.

So, all we have to purchase is the frames, (3) 39" & (3) 19" and of course all the interior fittings, including: drawers, shelves, trouser hangers, etc. I worked up a plan on the wardrobe planner and came up with a total of approximately $1,100 for the frames and interior fittings.

Do you think that the frames and interior fittings will weigh less or more than 500 lbs? Because if it justifies me purchasing more items (like for the bathroom remodel) to add up to the 500 lbs, (since I wouldn't be paying anymore shipping for it), I'd kinda like to get an idea of how much it might weigh. If it does justify it, I'll go ahead and get kitchen cabinets for the bathroom remodel as well.

I also figure if we went to the store and got home and found we were missing something, we'd be up-a-creek. But, if it's sent IKEA Direct, wouldn't they have to ship it free if they missed something in the original shipment?

Also, does anyone know how often they have the "free" shipping offers? Not sure if it usually applies to PAX closet items. If it usually does, I'll wait and see if a "free" shipping offer comes along.

(I'm SO excited to finally get this underway!)

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

the IKEA website has a link for package measurements and weight on each of the PAX items I just looked at ... it's a light blue link at the bottom of the description. Hopefully that will help you to figure out what the weight of your order will be.

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

Thanks, Doreen.

Hmmm, I'm sitting here listing all the items I need from the website and the website says the birch/beech frames are not available in the 19" & 39" drawers & clothes rail sizes I need.

I'm not sure if they REALLY ARE available and it's just not showing it, or what.

Gloria........Do you need anything from IKEA? Are you up for a joint-trip to Schaumburg? Sharing fuel expenses may come in handy for someone.

Ok, I couldn't find a "begging face icon", so the best I can offer is a "kissing-up" one

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

I think a group trip sounds like a great idea! I wish I knew something about when/if there might be a sale, but my guess would be that there will be some sales coming up with the push for 'Back to School'. Bedroom furniture may/might be part of a deal for college age kids heading out of the house for the first time.

I wish I had some brilliant idea, but I don't. I'd say your best bet would be to try to share fuel costs with someone and/or rent a fuel-efficient but roomy vehicle for the trip. As for the possibility of having to return...well, that possibility always exists, unfortunately. If they could make that reality disappear, we'd all be paying a lot more for the products.

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

Yes, obviously it would be more fun for me to go with someone who is IKEA obsessed like me than my husband , who frankly, could care less. He'd be in the store 1 hr. and ready to leave. I stare at the kitchen displays longer than that!!!

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

Hi Laurie, sorry I missed this when first posted. An IKEA-obsession road trip sounds fun, but doesn't fit with my family reality right now. I wish I could lump in a big order of Billys with you to share shipping but, alas, they're not high enough in the priority list at the moment. I guess I'm not much help. I'm glad your closet is becoming a reality!!

Re: Please Help Me With My Order

Yeah, dh was on vacation this week and it would have been the perfect time. Alas, he doesn't want me to make the trip myself. Sooooo, I guess I may be holding out for the free shipping offers to see if it will include the wardrobes. Although I'd rather go in person, it may be better this way anyway since I'd hate to get home and find something missing.
