hey everyone,

for awhile now, I have really wanted to get a GALANT desk. I am in Kansas City so my closest stores are Minneapolis, Chicago, or Dallas, all more than 8 hours away.

Shipping from IKEA is basically just not an option, as a $170 desk will cost about $300 to ship, which is really unfortunate, I understand the reasoning (a little), but I cannot understand why they aren't willing to develop a better home shopping/shipping infrastructure.

what is interesting though, if you just set up an order for just the legs, shipping is not to crazy at all. I understand the Top is large, but it can't possible cost over $200 to ship. With anything with someone larger dimensions, they feel the need to ship VIA: Truck, whatever that means, everything else can be shipped VIA UPS, is there anyway to convince them to just ship everything via UPS or even USPS?

I may look into purchasing the legs separately, should cost around $70-$80 with shipping, I can even pick up some accessories like the cable management add-on, and include it in the order.

I have been looking online for others selling and may have found one located in Chicago, but just though I would post here to see if there is a better way.

Possible group orders, shipping service, or friendly IKEAfans that live near a local store and are willing to help a guy out ^_^ - possibly just picking up a GALANT desktop in beech or birch 63"x31.5 or possibly one of the corner desks.

The desk I am looking for is just a normal GALANT birch desk with the A-Style legs.

Hi Andrew and Welcome to IKEAFANS!

As a regular, frequent and long-time driver of 35 between KC and Mpls, I can tell you that even Lawrence to Bloomington is only 7 hours max with Potty breaks and pie for the driver with a sense of destiny (which means you don't have a dining room set or 3,000 lbs of loose roof tear off in your truck).

That's an extra hour at the Mall of America across the street in a town with no sales tax on clothes. Have I mentioned that there is NO SALES TAX ON CLOTHES?

You could get the legs as you mention, and have a countertop made to match pretty inexpensively at HD or Lowes- even look for something recycled in KC and cut to fit your self.

Just an idea, I'm hoping you'll come to the land of sky blue waters for yourself.
