I'm moving to a 1-bedroom in Chicago with my girlfriend and we plan to buy furniture at Ikea Schaumburg. I'd like to know how long does it usually take shipping to Chicago downtown, since I don't want to spend a week sleeping on the floor or in a hotel. If it takes more than three or four days, I'll rent a van.

i think it depends if the items are in stock or if they are ordered from a warehouse. the store itself would be the best place to find out. i know if i order a kitchen for delivery it can take 10+ days, but that's a kitchen and it comes from the distribution center.

i'd say ask at the store.

Are you saying you live in Chicago and you don't want to drive to the Chicago-Schaumburg store to pickup but want it delivered to you instead?

Do you know that everything is flat-packed for home assembly? Are you just purchasing a bed? Do you have a friend with a pickup?

I'm moving to Chicago from Spain. I won't have a car nor friends. I'm thinking of renting a van, but I've never driven in the States and I guess parking a van in the Loop might be a little hard. That's why I'd prefer home shipping, unless it takes too long.

Aaaah, now I understand. I would try to call the Schaumburg store and ask. I hope you enjoy Chicago. My daughter, on the other hand, would love to go to Spain since she took 4 years of Spanish in High School. She's losing the ability to speak some of it already after being out of school for 3 years now. When you're not speaking it all the time, I guess that's what happens.

i LOVE spain, i would gladly live in Alicante for the rest of my life. *sigh* not gonna happen, but i'd gladly do it
