I live four hours from the nearest IKEA in Atlanta, and have heard rumors that you can get your kitchen shipped to a warehouse here in Charlotte and go pick it up there rather than pay for home delivery. Has anyone heard of this or did I dream it?? We are weighing the options of renting a U-Haul to go pick it up or save the tax by having it shipped here. My fear with going to pick it up is that everything will not be in stock (our door style is kept in stock) and we will have to make multiple trips to get it all.....with our little Jetta that means multiple U-Haul rentals....not my first choice!!

I have been browsing through these posts for a few weeks now, and just joined....this has been a great tool in getting our kitchen finalized (and keeping me distracted at work!!)

Welcome to IKEAFANS brieK!! I don't know the answer re: shipping from Atlanta to Charlotte - perhaps if you call the store they can confirm or deny. The phone number for IKEA Atlanta is in the info shown if you click the blue link for IKEA Atlanta.

One of the things you can do at most of the IKEAs is to get a draft order created. When you call IKEA as them if they can FAX you an order form. You'd complete the order form and FAX it to them and they'd FAX back a draft order. Once you have a draft order they can check stock. Sometimes you can even complete the order via FAX (you'd have to FAX your drivers lisence and credit card to them...), Another possible option would be to order via IKEA Direct. Also - once you've got the draft order they can even give you an estimate of how much the shipping would be - you can then make an informed decision re: delivery vs. rental of a U-Haul to pick your kitchen up.

I heard they are building an IKEA in Charlotte, NC...have you heard anything about that?

I love Charlotte...nearly moved there about 15 years ago. What totally sold me was that I went to a fairly upscale shopping area and the first store I saw was a ladies clothing store named "Eva Martini"

Which happens to be my name. (at the time anyway)

I'll always have a sweet spot for Charlotte!
