am seeing references to Ikea Direct but not clear on how that differs from ordering from a neighboring state's Ikea and setting up delivery...

or is this one and the same?

Specifically, for Missouri Ikeafans; did you trek to Chicago-area (or other) or have delivered??
and IF delivered what store (or other?? - not sure what I'm asking here) did you order & arrange delivery through....

I believe that IKEA Direct is independent of the stores...IOW, you can order through a store OR through IKEA Direct. If you order through a store, you would arrange for either pickup at the store or delivery through the store. IKEA Direct you only get delivery to your home and don't work with a particular store at all.

Is the main mail order and they do home delivery. They do not always carry waht can be found in stores (meaning sometimes IKEA Direct does not show stock of an item that you know is at a store) and they do not carry smaller items (like the rail systems).

also note - I remember reading some posts last year when one of the specials was going on - that shipping and delivery fees are not necessarily calculated the same way for the store and IKEA direct. It's definitely worth checking into the fee structure for delivery for the store you'd be using and for IKEA direct to see if they are similar - or if you'd save $$ by ordering in the store vs. IKEA Direct.

when you purchase from IKEA direct you do not have to pay taxes if you live in a state that doesn't have an IKEA. You will have to pay tax if you order through a store. Just a thought. We ordered through IKEA direct and the money we saved on taxes just about covered the cost of the shipping to our home.
