We have several 36" sink cabinets for sinks in our bathrooms and in our kitchen. The baskets that Ikea sells for mounting on the side wall of the sink cabinets don't offer a lot of additional storage and also don't work very well (stick/rub while being pulled out). We would like to put full width drawers in at the bottom and maybe also one mid-height (though we would need to modify the mid-height one to accomodate the plumbing). Ikea does not sell a 36" drawer that fits behind the cabinet doors but said that there may be a hack... Looking for ideas...

someone else did one which was a departure of mine, forget who and i don't think it was ever written up as an article. but i did this mod for my mom back in Feb and the fronts are still very sturdy.

If you don't mind the look of the 4-drawer fronts on you sink cabinet, and your plumbing is positioned out of the way enough, you might be able to use a full depth drawer on the bottom and a shallow depth drawer in the middle (I almost did this myself, but DH claims I'm addicted to drawers, and we should maybe have just one "normal" cabinet... bah!)

Anyway... They don't make a shallow depth, 36" drawer either, but you can make one out of a 36" wide deep drawer and one of the shallow drawers. You have to cut the bottom piece of wood, but otherwise it's a pretty straight forward parts swap...
