Has anyone thought about painting (staining?) the Norden Gateleg Table a black or brown? The website lists the finish as being a clear polyurethane/acrylic lacquer. Has anyone sanded this down and painted it? I know quite a few people have sanded and painted the kitchen cabinets, but none of them seem to have this same finish.

By now you have no doubt gone ahead. I have the Leksvik gateleg table in a half round and straight combo. I bought it in '03, but I think they discontinued that version. Anyhoo, I wanted painted legs with the pine top. Lightly sanded and slapped 2 or 3 (memory failure) coats of black semi-gloss. Nearly 5 years later the paint is still holding up. There are a few knicks and dents, but I think that's to be expected with pine.
