Do the horizontal wall cabinets use the same doors as the vertical cabinets? If so, I'm thinking it would be possible to cut down a 30x15 fan/refrigerator cabinet (or the horizontal wall cabinet) so it's 24" wide, and add a 15x24 door (turned sideways) using the lift hinges. (I want this for a spot in my bathroom.) Anyone see why this wouldn't work? Thanks.Â* Pam
The horizontal cabinets do use the same doors as the vertical ones - if you start with the 30" horizontal and cut it to 24.25", the 15x24 door should fit. You will need to carefully position one of the hinges, but all the hardware (included with the horizontal cabinet) should work. I havn't tried this myself, so no guarantees, but next week I intend to modify a 30x15 birch cabinet to work with a horizontal door. If it works I'll post the results.

Doorstyle: Nexus BB...and nothing has gone wrong with that plan...
Hi,
I am thinking of doing this mod to a 24" horizontal as well, part of re-configuring my Nexus BB to make what I have work.
I don't see any reason why this would not work, but looking for tips from people who have done it.
Another question I have is if I want to just make new boxes, does anyone know where I might get the hinges that hold the doors open. I have enough of the regular hinges.

You could also do something like the below. IKEA makes doors that are 24W x 15T as well as 15T x 24W. They are actually slightly different dimensions (in addition to have the hinge holes drilled on different sides.) The above mod didn't require any cutting except for the back panel (done w/ a utility knife.) I just used 24" wide wall cabinet tops/bottoms attached to 15" tall wall cabinet sides, and then cut down a back to fit perfect. This was easier than redrilled holes to hold the cabinet together (which was my original plan.)
