How do I put a microwave drawer in a base cabinet?

Hi All-

I want to add a Sharp Microwave Drawer in the kitchen.

Microwave Drawer Oven - Sharp takes the microwave off the counter

I can use a 30" base cabinet but the installation instructions says I need a surface to hold 100 lbs. Has anyone done this or have an idea how to do it? I guess I would need a shelf? Ideas a comments needed.

It looks like I will need to eliminate the top two drawers but the bottom drawer will stay. I will have to add some filler strips to make it look OK.

Thanks much! Lynn

Re: How do I put a microwave drawer in a base cabinet?

hi lynn and welcome to the forums!

i'm thinking (and btw, i LOVE the micro drawers and i'm thinking about one for my next kitchen... you'll have to let me know if you love it!) that you can use a shelf called the "oven shelf" which comes with additional screw in pegs and can most likely carry your 100lbs, even without cleating. you can also probably use the oven cover panel to fill in the gaps...

Re: How do I put a microwave drawer in a base cabinet?

The 30" 'oven shelf' will easily support the 100lbs. - you will have to ask for the screw-in shelf supports at your local store, as they are included with the pantry cabinets.
For the filler pieces I would use a 30" shallow drawer front and cut the top and bottom to make the two strips required - regular 'L' brackets will hold them in place.
You will have to buy a 4 - pack of drawer fronts to finish the one deep drawer under the microwave - depending on the door style you could cut the filler pieces from the 'extra' deep drawer front and not need the 30" shallow front mentioned above.
