Ok so I know I've read about this somewhere but can't find it now. I believe most are in agreement that the glass in the Adel birch cabinets is hideous. (why don't they change this???) I would like to replace it, though my husband says no way is he going to tear apart a brand new door unless he knows for sure that we can replace the glass safely (which I semi-agree with). Is it true that Ikea may sell returned doors at a fraction of the price? If I were to find a returned regular Adel door, could I modify it to accept a glass panel? Does anybody have experience with this they can share..pictures??
This is my first time posting on here though I'm sure it won't be my last...We're doing kitchen + 2 baths +closets + home office + garage...so look forward to a load of questions and pictures!

And yes, IKEA does sell returned doors at a deep discount very often. You'll find them in the as-is department of your local store. I'm not sure where that is at your store, but at most it's near the checkouts, I believe.

I purchased regular wood (non-glass) doors and am planning to put glass in them. Unfortunately, my glass won't arrive for another couple of weeks, so I can't say for sure that you won't have any problems. I did, however, verify using a sample piece that the 1/4" thick glass I ordered fit into the groove. I can't think of anything else that could go wrong (famous last words).

Thanks Tim, that's a really great source. So many choices! I like the European Clear Linen and the Clear Coral. It looks like the glass you've chosen is 1/4" thick so that is really good to know!

I'm going to go tomorrow and check it out. I've only been to Ikea twice!!! I was really scared of the crowd situation, but I decided I would try going during a weekday and I'm already totally addicted.. BTW, I love your toekick modification! Definitely adding that to the list. Thanks.
