Hi everybody! I would really love to get some opinions on a couple ideas we had for installing this gorgeous farmhouse sink we just purchased. I can't wait until it gets here!!! We can't decide if we should install the 30" wide sink into a 30" or 36" base. It won't affect the overall design too much because the cabinetry on that wall ends with about 9' of blank wall into the breakfast nook. Any input would be greatly appreciated. P.S. ignore the mistake on one of the bottom measurements..I put 10" instead of 30" for the sink.
I put my 27" stainless apron sink in a 30" ikea cabinet, using 1x4 and 2x4's as supports. I removed both of the top brackets and built new ones lower that would support the sink.
If your sink is like mine, the inside is actually smaller than the listed dimension, meaning you would only have to trim the sides of the 30" cabinet near the top. this might be easier than building 3+" of support out from each side.
check the pictures...hopefully they help with your planning.
I installed this same sink in my kitchen. It fits nicely in the 30" base, and I would reccomend doing that. I'd shave a bit off the top of the cabinet so the top of the sink sits flush with the adjoining cabinets. You also need to move the front top cabinet support (I put it directly under the sink at the front of the cabinet.
I have butcher block installed over it, and just secured the butcher well to the adjoining cabinets to sandwich the sink in -- didn't actually attach the sink directly to anything.
I did pull out doors underneath. I've got Abstrakt doors (slab style), so I just cut down the next size up so I didn't need filler. Adel would take some serious mod, so think your 2" of filler would work fine.
And, just as advice, the bottom of this sink scratches pretty easily so you might look into getting a grid or mat for the bottom.
Sorry I cant help with the mods for this project but have to say that is a very pretty sink and can see why you are so anxiously awaiting it's arrival.
I do have a quick question - how does the apron front hold out - I love the look of it but wondering if teenagers with big honking belt buckles might scratch it??
I cant wait to follow your progress and watch it all come together.
the front has actually been fine. i do have a lot of scuffs on the the top front flat part, especially on the inside edge. I tend to rest pans and such there when i'm scrubbing them.
Thank so much everybody! staticfritz, I love your sink! I'm not sure what the underside of our sink looks like (again I CANNOT wait until it gets here!!!)...tommymiller50 says that I should cut down the tops of the sides cabinet so that the sink is flush with the other cabinets...I'm assuming then that there is a lip.
tommymiller50...I'm sooo glad to hear that somebody else has installed this sink in a 30" base! That is definitely what I'll do. I would like to do pullouts underneath as well. BTW, do you have any pictures of yours installed??I did read in reviews about the bottom scratching problem. I searched around for a grid, but it appears that Kingston Brass does not manufacture them..and I can't seem to find one that's the right fit. Any suggestions??
And I really hope that we won't have a belt buckle issue!!
I got the sink today!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! If anybody is looking for this style sink I would strongly suggest ordering this one from Overstock! It's beautiful and a screamin' deal.
I took it out and inspected/admired it for a while (talk about gigantic!) and promptly packed it back in the box for safe keeping as it still needs to be moved to our new place and won't be installed for at least a couple weeks. I left the blue protective layer on it so hopefully we don't get any surprises when we take it off down the road. The sink seems perfect though and it does appear that the fit will be just right with the 30" base.
Worry not (cause I know you we're just sweating with worry)...you all will have a thousand and one pictures from me very soon!! EXCITED!

my question is, Can this sink be used with formica countertops?
while i'd like to do silestone counters, for the moment i'm going with the numerar white/aluminum, which means i can't do an undermount sink. i don't like the look of a top mount sink and while i like the domsjo, i really don't want a porcelain sink either. i love the look of the ss farmhouse but i'm finding no info as to if it can be usd with formica. i'm assuming if it could, it would have to sit slightly higher than the countertop.
my base cabs are numerar stainless steel [which were discontinued] & my sink cab is 30" [which should be fine]. wall cabs are abstakt white & AVSIKT glass.
