I mismeasured!! The space here I intended to put a 12" base pullout is only 8". Of course I didn't discover this until the install was well under way. I absolutely refuse to lose 8" of cabinet space. So the 12" pullout will be modified to an 8" pullout. I can cut the cabinet down the middle - front & back rail, bottom & back. The rails & the bottom can be reassembled with dowels & glue & then covered with some of that iron on edge cover stuff (forget what it's called). I have whatever comes with the plinths. The drawers are a little trickier. The bottom is no problem - cut to size & router out a channel. The metal back can be cut down the center & reassembled with a coverplate - not the prettiest thing but workable since it will be all the way to the back. The biggest problem will the nexus birch door. The hinge holes won't matter since they are not used for the assembly & you have to drill holes for thedrawers anyway. The problem will be the cut side of the door. The door has what looks like a solid wood trim around all sides - roughly 1/8" thick, that is slightly darker than the body of the door. And the corners are slightly rounded. The cut end will be next to the stove.
Here are the options I can come up with. 1. Use more of the iron on edge cover stuff to cover the cut sides. It will not match in color the remainder of the door. 2. Try matching the color of the current trim & use this on the edge cover stuff. 3. (Most difficult) Try carefully cutting off the current trim & reattaching it.
I thought of getting a base cabinet pullout from a 3[sup]rd[/sup] party vendor, but I’ll have the same problem with the door. Any other ideas?

Can you fit one of the PERFEKT base units in that space instead? I think they are 9", but don't quote me. You might be able to fit it.

The 9" Perfect was my first throught. Unfortunately, 9" won't fit into 8". And I have absolutely no more room.

It might be easier to cut down the Perfekt unit...or even attach it to the side of the cabinet next to it instead of the side of the unit?

I think you're asking for trouble cutting down the drawers. They are finely machined, and of course, once you cut it, there's no going back. Could you perhaps use one of the 6" rev-a-shelf pull out spice racks? Did you see Lee_A's or Robin_G's? They've both installed them, and I believe they have pictures in their progress blogs .

Your door should be less troublesome...I'd look at using a 30" shallow drawer front turned sideways -- on a 6" pull-out spice rack, it would be perfect. Then you'd just need to use filler on 2" to the side.

Eh?

Susan

One of my first throughts was to use a 30" drawer turned sideways. But Nexus has a strong vertical grain and one cabinet with a horizontal grain would look a little strange. Rev a shelf has a pullout that would work - but there's still the door problem.
