Re: Blind Corner High Cabinet/ Pantry??

Yes the reason this high pantry is blind is because a 12" base and wall cabinet run goes into it at the corner.

How do you modify a base for a tall pantry?

Check out this link and scroll over the gray and teak kitchen and you'll see what I'm trying to do. There are a few other examples on this site too.

Re: Blind Corner High Cabinet/ Pantry??

Chatting real time sure is a little delayed I completely forgot we were trying to do those wood shelves originally. We nixed that in favor of less cutting. This way we can just use a 30" width cabinet.

Do 2" legs exist? What are other alternatives for creating a base of 2" or less?
You can build a base for the cabinet out of lumber - 2x4s on their sides would be 1.5" tall. For 2", shim the cabinet up another 1/2" with plywood. My hall pantry cabinet is on a scrap piece of 3/4" thick plywood - just enough to let the doors on the bottom clear the floor.

Somewhere here someone has a picture of a pantry (high) cabinet that has a different height toe kick than the other cabinets - it is not very noticeable and does not look odd.

The next decision is on the doors.

1) Stack 3 18" wide doors and then use either 3 - 15" doors OR one continuous cover panel for the blind side? (The 3" overage would cover the gap from the wall so it would be mounted exactly at the corner of the cabinets)

2) Cut down 24" x 64 door to 18" on one side and use a 15" x 64 door on the other.

Any ideas welcome -- this is driving me nutty!
How high will the 12" deep cabinet be? If it will be counter height, how about a door on that side of the high cabinet? Then you could put the 18" (or whatever size door fits) on the lower part of the high cabinet and matching pairs of doors above if you use a 30" wide high cabinet.

You could put a 39" (to bring it up above counter height) in whatever width, then a pair of 15" wide x 39" tall doors. The one over the 12" deep cabinet might be blocked by stuff on the counter, but it would be more accessible than a true blind corner cabinet. There might be a little fill needed at the top of the cabinet and you'd need to fill the 3" in the corner, but the cabinet would be more functional.

Could you post a screen shot of your plan if I am completely wrong in my mental picture?

Re: Blind Corner High Cabinet/ Pantry??

Ok -- I'm with ya on the base, but lost on the second answer. I'm not sure how to do the screen shot either, other than hitting prt sc and pasting that image in Word, cropping it, and pasting below. I don't think it's going to work, but here goes...

Re: Blind Corner High Cabinet/ Pantry??

That worked, but the easy way is while in the IKEA Planner chose Save As and I think somewhere in there is a choice to save as a BMP. Since BMPs are not compressed, they are large, so it is best to then open it in a graphics program and save as a JPG.

So you will have uppers above the 12" deep lower next to the pantry and my idea of having a door above the small counter will not work. Rats.

In that case, the easiest thing to do would be to get a cover panel and just cover that entire section. Depending on the width, either a high cabinet cover panel (which will be about 25"x80 or 88") or a 3'x8' cover panel will be needed. With the 3' wide panel, you could cut it to go all the way to the wall to fill that extra 3". Then just get whatever combination of doors will fit the open side. And actually, you would probably want to place the cabinet, put the doors on, then fit the panel to go right up to the doors.

There are more choices of combinations for the 88" tall high cabinets - the measurements just work out better. I'd probably go for the two 39" doors and maybe put a shelf and a trim strip in between. Or the 64" & 15" combo, which would need no filler.
