After getting the base cabinets in place it was obivious the small water heater would extend past the 24 inch cabinet depth. We came up with a good solutions I wanted to share.

A 24 inch base cabinet was used. On side pane was cut short to fit the curve of the water heater. The the bottom and back panels were not used. I attached the top rail pieces to the top and bottom of the side panels. Attached the long aide panel directly to the wall. Made a leg for shortened side from a scrap 1x4.

Looks like it is going to work out pretty good. Still need to install the filler pieces and work out the kick panel, plinth issues.

HI - interesting mod - but that being said - is that a gas water heater?

I am not sure about the small ones - but the gas water heater I have has to have a min of 2 foot clearance around it on all sides.

Mine is in my laundry room and I know I am careful where I put baskets of clothes close to it per the gas man/installer who installed it - he told me not to have anything near the pilot light or burner area as it can become very combustible.

I know this is a true fact as a old neighbour of mine house burnt down because there were newspapers too close to the pilot light of her water heater.

Just had to put that out there.

It is an electric heater. The previous owner hid it behind a hideous curtain.
