I've included a step-by-step guide to show how easy it was for me to cover the beech finish edges on my boxes so that they did not show behind the Nexus black-brown doors. The edge-banding I purchased is made by Edgemate Products. It is a pvc product so I didn't have to apply a finish like the wood veneers. It comes in many colors, so for my project I used black. The edging comes in 25 ft rolls. Be sure to get the "hot melt adhesive backing" that way you can simply iron-on the edging. The best time to apply the edge-banding is before you assemble the boxes, that makes it much easier to trim.Set your iron to the "cotton" setting andwatch those fingers!

If you think the iron will be too hot use a cottoncloth over the banding and iron.

The adhesive melts to the original finish.

Once the edging has cooled you can use a trimmerto cut off the excess[size="3"].

Sand the edges and you're done.

I wish I'd read this post earlier. I've just spent the afternoon staining mahogany veneer with Charcoal stain. I love how it looks andit'san almost perfectmatch, but I think the black PVC achieves the same result . We debated on whether to remove the existing edgebanding or just adhere the veneer as a second layer. We tested out both methods butdecided to remove the white, purely because all the previous posters had done it that way so we knew it worked well. Now that I've seenyour resultsI think we might just go ahead and do the remaining cabinets without removing the old edgebanding. The thickness appears fine, we were just worried about loosening up the original when we ironed on the second layer.

I'll post some pics when we're done (too dark now to show what we've done today).

I don't think they're the same company, but they do carry alot of the same products. Both are well-regarded and have excellent customer service, selection and as for Woodcraft: speedy delivery! Another one to check, although I don't think they have any PVC edgebanding, is Lee Valley. EXCELLENT company in so many ways.
