Question Bonde TV bench top shelf modification

I've just found the speakers of my dreams, but there is one problem. They are too tall for my Bonde TV-bench with top shelf. So what I want to do is remove the bottom shelf of the top shelf (very nice sentence).

Heres a picture to illustrate what i want to remove (the red part is the shelf I want to remove):

What I'm worried about is that that shelf have a crucial support function for the rest of the shelf, so that if I remove it, the whole shelf will collapse down on my TV....

Ideas, anyone?

Re: Bonde TV bench top shelf modification

I know this question is a bit old, but I did this mod and it worked fine. Something to keep in mind is that it looks like most of the load on the shelves is supported from the top of the unit (that is why the top is so heavy). The other shelves are not strong enough to support weight without sagging. Kind of counter intuitive, but the top of the unit is the important load-bearing member.

Re: Bonde TV bench top shelf modification

Dear FANS

I have a problem: I don't know the exact dimensions of openings in Bonde TV bench and add-on unit shelves. Namely, before I order the TV bench and add-on unit, I want to be sure if I can accomodate my TV/home cinema hardware in it.

I have LG plasma tv 1040 x 727 x 308 mm ( w x h x d) and I believe it can fit neatly, but still have to be sure. Next, I have 11 kg Onkyo AV receiver 435 x 150 x 379.5 mm that I intend to put in left cavity of add-on unit (shaded in original thread's photo of add-on unit), removing glass shelf first.

Last but not least, I have 440x142x170 Jamo center speaker that I would like to put in central cavity in tv bench, so I need its dimensions too.

I am enclosing a photo on which all cavities I need dimensions for are outlined in red.

Please help with these dimensions, folks!
