I am a newbie and in pre-planning stages, trying to fit cabs into my kitchen. I need two 36" x 36" base corner cabs (have U-shape kitchen). Ikea has non-std. 37" x 37". My wall (base of U) is 140" - currently have a 36" corner cab, 24" DW, 36" sink, 8" tray cab, and 36" corner cab = 140". I want to keep the same set-up. A 37" cab I am afraid will not fit and will also cause problems on the adjacent wall where the range is because I don't have an extra inch to spare.
Is there some way to cut the corner base cab from 37 x 37 to 36" x 36" and still have the door fit? I just can't figure out why the corner cabs all seem to be 1 inch longer than standard sizes.

You could also use a regular 36" cabinet as a blind cab (you can make pretty nearly any cabinet into a blind cabinet), with a regular cabinet at right angles to it. However, bear in mind that you need to allow some filler so that doors/drawers can open.

Lee Valley makes a pullout unit for a 36" blind cabinet that is very popular here as a way to get the use of the space back in the corner.

But yes, you can cut down a cabinet if you want to. However, you will also need to cut down the doors, so you might want to consider how that will look in your chosen door style.

Thank you for your insight. I'm not sure I want any blind cabs; I am going to try to make it work by eliminating the 8" tray cabinet I currently have. That would free up some space. I really am trying to make Ikea work because I love the look and feel and quality of their cabinets (and the $$$). Lidingo white is the door I want to use. thanks again!
