Problem 1: We bought Adel birch cabinets and wanted tall upper cabinets topped by horizontal cabinets...tall boxes come in birch, the horizontal ones only come in white. From the side of the cabinets, you can see the birch on the bottom and the white on the top. Ugh.

Problem 1A: Fortunately the only spot you can see this in our kitchen is where the exposed hood is above the rangetop...the inside plane of the four cabinets (two lower taller birch cabinets and two upper horizontal white box cabinets) is where the problem is...which is UNFORTUNATE. Because adding a typcial 1/2 inch cover panel would shift the upper cabinets from being aligned with the lower cabinets.

Solution: Stainless panels, which match the appliances and the hood next to them and are easy to clean next to the exhaust hood, mounted to cover the disparity.

This picture shows the rangetop (mod listed elsewhere), a glass backsplash protecting the exposed brick, teh stainless panels against the cabinets and the Bosch hood. I like the contrast of shiny/rough and cool/warm colors...

Here is a close up of the panels...they are wrapped around the front edge of all of the cabinets here...and fit behind the doors (90 degree bend). I mounted them with exposed stainless screws and stainless finish washers....best part of all, it looks great. Second best part, it was free...my electrician called in a favor at the local fabrication shop!

That looks fantastic! It goes really well with the brick. I wonder how much it would cost if you didn't have a favor to call in? Any ideas?

That looks great! I really love how the brick, birch, and stainless work together.

I don't think it would be that expensive...it is a fairly thin piece of metal (though it is pretty rigid, don't know the exact thickness) with one bend in it...but can't geuss as to the cost.
