I have just bought a microwave cabinet

I dont want to spend the 300quid or so on a built in microwave.

Can I put a standard microwave in?

I'm assuming you bought the IKEA cabinet outfitted to hold a microwave oven. Assuming the IKEA co-worker did their job, you should have received a shelf which attaches to top side of the lowest shelf of your cabinet, and which you cut to depth to accommodate the size of your microwave.

You will have to provide an electrical source for the microwave, but that's a separate task from assembling and installing the cabinet itself.

there will be an electritian installing it. he is setting up a pwer point to put a microwave in this cabinet. I dont want to spend a fortune on the ikea microwave and would just like to slot a regular (cheaper) micro in there.

If I leave enough space around it do Ineed addtional ventilaiton

Depending on which microwave you buy, you may need the shelf I was describing above - it extends the length of the bottom shelf in that cabinet to allow for depths greater than 12 1/2".

As for ventilation issues, you'll be fine with whatever model you choose. No need for additional work there.
