Shown is preliminary results of a test piece matching Adel Medium Brown using Minwax Ipswitch Pine. This is an all-in-one stain and finish with two coats.I think it will need a coat of satin poly, but I'm pretty pleased with the initial results. The camera flash is picking up the white-ish sanding marks (I need to sand it smoother), but you really can't see them in as much real life.
Hey....that's nice! I'll add that to the list on the Fansite with your pictures, if'n you don't mind!

Sure! I just put on some wipe-on poly and it's even better now. I also used Minmax pre-stain wood treatment before staining. I compared this cut piece to an IKEA finished end, and I think three coats will be a better match. I'll post more results.
We will be staining some birch veneer tape to match the adel medium brown... is your final determination that the wood conditioner, three coats of ipswitch pine, and the poly is a good match?
I wonder if there isn't already edgebanding in the right shade out there? Have you not found any? I sort of want to change out the edgebanding on our Adel MB cabinets but I really really don't want to add any more steps than
Honestly I haven't tried to find edgebanding pre-finished. I thought it would be faster and cheaper to just stain it, it's such a small area. No on-line searching and buying stuff that ends up wrong. Maybe there is someone else who can point to some pre-finished edgebanding that matches?
While doing some research to find some cabinet pieces for my Kitchen, I found out from one of the distributors that Sherwin Williams, As I am sure other paint stores, can custom match your stain ( he told me this when HE freaked out at the $96/qt the manufacturer wanted for their OEM stain ). I took a stock piece which was factory stained, along with an unstained sample and they can then color match. It takes a couple of says, depending on how busy they are, but not bad $13 dollar investment.
