Here's my situation...

I was unaware that IKEA rounds their measurements on many of their publications and on their website. Long story short, Iripped out a wall, re-framed, and re-drywalled a 93" openingto build-in my new pax wardrobes. Only after having them delivered did I find there were in fact 93'1/8" tall.

I am curious if anyone has suggestions for solving this problem. I'm thinking I can saw 1/8" off the bottom and be done with it. However, I have little experience in dealing with this particle board material used for the frame and am afraid it will not cut smoothly, splinter, or otherwise be damaged.

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions and advice!

Exactly what I am planning to do with a smaller wall cabinet... and was hoping to find suggestions on which table saw blade is best for particle board...

'Guess we'll have to do our own research.

Hey, mainemanx...this thread was duplicated in another forum. It was answered in the other spot...I'll have to go in search of to find it, but there are definitely some answers out there.

Also, there was a thread just today regarding which blade to use for cutting the cabinets. The search function here is pretty good -- let me see if I can work some magic, and I'll report back.

Here's the thread with responses on cutting the PAX: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/forum11/2457.html

And here's the one discussing the blades, teeth, etc.: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/forum1/1668.html

Actually, there are more than one....: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/forum11/1574.html

If you do a search on "cut, saw, blade", you'll get others from which to glean some information. If I didn't have a monster headache, I'd summarize and type it out for you. Sorry. :?

Hope that helps!

WOW!!! Sooper Dooper thanks for the links and the website!!!!!

Today was spent recovering my computer from Apple's service provider... reinstalling hard drives, memory, and doing general housekeeping... Tomorrow I must finish the storm door installation and get started on ordering more weather stripping for the windows...

Someday she'll get her cabinets.

A dark room, lie down on your back, good head phones, and your favorite music... sure cure for my migraines.

You're welcome Bill...and thanks for the migraine tips. I usually get an icepack and sunglasses. Ice works wonders.

Hopefully you're able to find what you need. If not, feel free to post...DH, Tigger that is, is pretty good with the engineering/technical stuff. I just regurgitate for the most part.

I did this. My four tall PAX frames have all been shortened by the height of the toekick. The hardest part is running the large side panels through the table saw but you could do it with a circular saw and clamped straightedge and that might be easier.

What thickness drywall did you use? Instead of cutting the cabinets, could you just remove the ceiling material and replace it with thinner drywall? I think you can get 1/4"...
ohhhhhhh! Or what about removing the ceiling drywall entirely and putting a trim piece on the front face of the opening to finish the edge instead of bead?

Oh, and yes, the more teeth the better, and get a saw blade that says it's for laminate. Also make sure you are always cutting so that the "good" side has the saw blade rotating down into it instead of up.
