Oliver - did you save the part of the door you cut off? When Icut down somedrawers, I was able to remove the existing edge band from thediscarded piece, and reapply it to the new edge. Cover with a thin cloth and apply a hot iron until you can pry the edge off (I used a really thin putty knife to pry), and repeat the same to press it down on the new spot. I had to stain a few of the rough corners, but it worked great.
I save every scrap piece, no wonder the garage is such a mess. I'll try that, thanks for the idea.
I still need to get more edge banding, I also had to create a 3 inch door for a spice pullout cabinet that needs it. I think I'll just order all the darker woods in the smallest size to see what matches the best. It just needs to be close since non of the places it's going will be in the open. Even some of the end cover pieces that have the edge staring you in the face are too red match the doors.
There' are 2 formulas for matching edge banding for Hallarum posted on the FAQ page for edgebanding on the Fansite side -- unfortunately, both of them involve staining. Here's a link: http://www.ikeafans.com/FAQModificationEdgeBanding.htm
Hope that helps!
Susan

You can buy the unstained wood edgebanding at Rockler (and other places, I'm sure). I think General Finishes gel stain in Mahogany is a pretty close - but not perfect - match for Hallarum. I posted a picture here: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/view_...neral+hallarum+
