Can anybody tell me about their experience doing this. I would be taking a wood door (we like the glass) and painting it.

I haven't heard of using auto paint on wood- I've seen it on metal of all kinds and it looks awesome.

Wondering if you will see the same effect on a pourous surface? What part of the look at are you trying to achieve?

It's quite common for people DIY loudspeakers to use automotive paint on wood. See here for example:

Although the material used is usually MDF not real wood. If you are using real wood you would need to take a few extra steps to avoid the wood grain showing through the paint

If I were to paint an ikea wooden dorr I would have done the following to prepare the door before painting it.

1. Sand away the laquer of the door
2. Use some kind pore filler
3. Sand it flat

A rule of thumb here is that any uneveness you can feel with you're fingers will show up through the paint.

I am doing my kitchen in abstrakt white, for the most part the wall cabinets are all horizontal. On the end I was thinking of using two of the PERFEKT 9"X30" 'shelf with 2 draws', you know the ones with the wine bottle holders. I am worried that the color/finish on these two cabinets will not match the rest of the high-gloss look. I'll try to attach a pdf of the plan later.

I was thinking about the automotive paint to acheive the high-gloss look. Maybe I could just lacquer them with a high-gloss finish.
