Horizontal mounting 12 inch wall cabinet

Hi All--

I have a problem with an over window install of a 39 by 15 inch horizontal cabinet. These were a late add to the project and are going to extend higher than the tops of the 39 inch vertical mount wall cabinets being used throughout the kitchen.

I'm looking at mounting a 12 by 39 inch wall cabinet horizontally as it will cleanly match the top line of the other cabinets. Has anyone tried such an install? It looks like a no brainer. Do the hinges from the 15 inch cabinet fit inside the 12? If not, any suggestions on other sources for hinges that will hold the 12 inch door open?

Thanks.

I would use a regular 39" horizontal cabinet cut down to 12" height, with a 12" door attached. You can still use all the hardware without having to worry about how to fit the hinges.

We cut down a cabinet to be 6.5" tall but still hang the correct way. Pictures are here

My hubby drilled holes to match the original cabinet holes and we used a 15" over the fridge cabinet.
