I know there are many fans of the Lee Valley blind corner unit here. We're looking to put one in a 36" base with a top drawer, but then I saw a video on youtube and it sounded like it was difficult to push back in. For those who have it, what's been your experience in this regard?
I'm not too picky--I'm generally not a fan of all of the fancy hardware like the soft close features and ultra smooth glides. But I don't necessarily want something that makes a lot of scraping noise and is difficult to push and pull, either...
Thanks! Yes, that's a good thread. I have read it before and noticed that there was one person who had difficulty with it and another who had one unit that was tough but a second that was great.
So I was just wondering if most people experience that scraping and jerkiness but choose to put up with it because of how innovative it is and because it allows dead space to be used? Or is it the case that the rough sounds and lack of smoothness are just a few bad apples in the bunch?
The install I encountered was outstanding- nothing but smooth sailing. I have to say that the willingness to tweak (as opposed to a neurotic need) is frequently the key to success in kitchen installs.
I could be wrong, but I would buy this based on the experience of this thread, and working with it in kcmg's kitchen.
as an installer i will talk my clients out of this unit if i can. if there is room for the 49 do it. if there isn't, then i'll look to other solutions long before lee valley.
not only do i not appreciate the jerky and scraping (and seriously, when it's a miss, the client doesn't realize that it can be "some units are fine, some aren't, they just think it's me) but i also HATE that the baskets lift. only thing worse is the IKEA under sink unit where the baskets don't sit right.
I might install another ONLY if the 49 won't fit and we can't configure to allow for something else, but it will be a significant upcharge because of all the goshdarn tinkering involved. And the client will be forewarned against them
I used to love these things in concept, now i hate them in principle!!!
