I'm hoping to modify the tall oven cabinet by adding a shallow drawer into what would be empty space behind the oven panel directly below below my single oven. (I can't stand the thought of all those cubic inches of space going to waste!) According to all my measurements, there is enough room for the oven and the drawer. I'll have to shorten the 30"x40" oven panel by about 6.25"
(The height of the 30" wide shallow drawer front). I'll have to veneer that cut edge, but if I can get that to look acceptable, I can't see why it wouldn't work. Has anyone else done this? If not, why? Am I missing something?
I am considering this as well, although I also have a microwave in that cabinet, so I'm not sure I'll have quite enough room.
The tall oven cabinet has many possibilities. I just bought an oven panel, but now I'm not even sure I'll need it. LOL.
I doubt I'll need my oven panel either. We needed it at first but then we added a warming drawer and an advantium (microwave, sorta) with a single oven. Luckily since abstrakt black has been cancelled, I can use the panel for other areas.
We installed the third drawer in the tall oven cabinet with great success!
It is a single oven which reqires a maximum cabinet height opening of 28.5" so it worked out beautifully. Not only do I have the perfect drawer for oven mitts, thermometers, basters, tongs, etc; but I think it looks better as all the drawers line up across the span and the cabinet itself looks better without all that plain cover panel showing. There is about 1.5" of panel below the oven, and about 5" above.
Camera is on the fritz and I'm busy with Christmas (gotta bake cookies in the new convection oven!) but will post lots of pics soon. The kitchen is ALMOST DONE!
After reading your question and the answers I decided to put in a third drawer. It worked out great with plenty of room. (Single oven) We did have to cut the cover panel but it was easy to add veneer to the bottom.
