yes, please do post the process! I'm hoping to retrofit it into our blind corner but might not be flexible enough to get into the cabinet and still work.
Installing it with counters on would be easy if you know someone tiny who's good with a screwdriver! I used the narrowest possible opening, and doubt we could have done it with counters on. If your door is wider than 15", it might not be so bad. You can see installation diagrams on the lee valley website too.
I got my granite at www.valuestone.comin Seattle. Found them through Craigslist. I imagine there are similar outfits in different cities - several more have opened in Seattle since last winter. It's a true bargain to get these pre-fabricated slabs, if it works for your kitchen design!
Thanks for the link to the granite! What awesome prices. Is it different than the usual granite- i.e. can it not overhang the cabinets without support?
Also, how did you do the cutouts for the sink? Do you have an undermount sink?
Alas, my corner cabinet is too small for the Lee Valley coerner unit, but I am planning a new basement kitchenette, and will plan to use it there. The larger corner cabinets were just taking up too much space, and I didn't like the half moon solution .
I hope these help you see how the install works. It really depends how big the opening is to the cabinet and if you can fit into it. Let me know if there are any other angles you would like to see.
scrappy - the granite website linked above has complete installation instructions if you need more detail than I can remember. It's 1" thick, IIRC, and you mount it on top of plywood for stability - not to elevate it above the cabinets. It's just a flat slab with a bullnose, so you could place it right on top of the cabinets and the drawers would still clear it. I have a Domsjo sink, so no sink cutouts were needed. The slab just goes up to the sink and the sink lip sits on top. For undermount, I would have needed professional help.
Can someone back up for me here and explain what this lee valley modification is all about? from the very beginning of this thread it is unclear to me what was done and why. I have a need to solve some issues with a corner and peninsula and am curious if this "lee valley" unit might be helpful, but from the lack of decent photos and clear explanation here, I've spent hours reading about a Lee Valley Blind Corner Unit and still don't know what it is or what advantage it offers. I went to the lee valley website and they don't even seem to sell cabinets. Any assistance on this is appreciated.
There are actually quite a few pictures on this thread show what the Blind Corner unit is, but I realize it can be a bit confusing if you're coming at it cold. A "blind cabinet" is the corner cabinet in kitchens where you can't reach all the space in tha back corner because of the depth of the counter. The traditional solution is to use a Lazy Susan system but that still loses a LOT of space. Lee Valley's system is a series of connected sliding shelves that makes the majority of the space available and easily accessed when you pull them out/open the door. It's a really ingenious system and Lee Valley sells it for a small fraction of what you'd pay for a custom cabinet solution that does the same thing.
Hopefully that makes it a *little* clearer?
Anyway, welcome to the forums and best of luck in your project!
James

James thanks very much for that - I forgot to mention I ran across several links to the Lee Valley product that did not actually bring me to the product like your link did.
That's a decent looking unit.
If anyone is looking for this in the future and the links don't work for them, you might try leevalley.com - and then go to > Shelf Hardware > Kitchen Shelf Hardware -
I am realizing that this unit, although quite nifty, is really not designed to reach into the dead space in the 49" Iikea Corner unit? correct?
Thanks again
Mark
